Hardly a cloud in the sky when I went out for a walk this evening so didn't think there was going to be a sunset at all. I'd intended to find some birdlife but didn't really find anything exciting happening. But then the sky decided to do something after all and I managed to grab this with the 70-200 when it happened in front of me.

Canon responded:

My question:

Just to be clear. If I adjust Case 1 to the same settings as say Case 3 there are still non user modifiable AF algorithm going on behind the scene that makes the two AF cases different no matter the settings? Is this correct?

Canon's response:

"That is correct, there are background settings in each case that cannot be modified. We hope this helps."

So that solves that question. Each AF case is different no matter if we set them all up with the same settings.

Glad to know this for sure now.

Al

Thanks for the response and clarification.

Very nice photos from the OKC zoo ... in particular the gorilla images, excellent light.

I have a question for any 7D Mark II shooters that are using the battery grip (BG-E16) and LP-E6N batteries. I have noticed that my batteries are discharging at different rates and that the charge levels are usually about 10 to 12% apart by the time they get to half the charge. I never noticed this at more than 1 or 2% on the original 7D gripped.

Has anybody else seen this? Thanks in advance.

I'm seeing that too but then things often even out as I continue to shoot. It's sort of odd.

I have noticed my higher mAh Sterlingtek batteries outperform the Canon battery.

Thanks for the reply Phoenixkh ... seems odd to me as well.

I am full of questions today so I will ask a couple more if it is okay.

Has anyone figured out how to do a "hard reset" with the Mark II - not talking about the menu option?

Also, I recall reading some time back that the 7D Mk II does not have a removable coin (clock) battery and that it was internal and charged via the main. If true, rechargeable batteries eventually fail and if so does the camera have to go into Canon?

Thanks again.

I've always wondered about that too, starting with my 60D. The internal battery has never failed.... but one would think it would, eventually.

My 60D is almost 3 years old now.

I like that black, white and yellow bird. It's a cross between the Black and White and Yellow Rump Warbler over here.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. Besides, with these talented folks out here, a bootleg fix may be in place by the time these things ever go back. That, or you would've upgraded to another body by then.

another nice one, Jeff

Are you still using a 70-200 variant with a teleconverter or are you back to the 70-300L?

I used the 70-300L on these, I would love to try the 100-400L II

Thanks Methodical, yeah they are quite photogenic when you can catch them, they are small and fast.
They are actually a very important species over here, they are one of the main pollinators of the Australian indigenous plants, they have a long tongue with a brush on the end to get to the nectar, they also eat insects.

Cheers
Gus
