What does one do with a new 7D2 in the middle of winter with no snow and few birds around. Well here are three cats from the Oklahoma City zoo. Not as fun as those foxes but the best I can do around here right now.

Snow Leopard, Cheetah and a Mountain Lion on the next post.

Enjoy! Comments welcomed and appreciated.

John Sheey, you can call it want you want and see it how you see it that's you right. Also, you can do all the techy math that you see fit. I can care less about all of that because it means nothing to me. The bottom line is if I shoot the same image at the same distance with the same lens with my 5D and 7D, the 7D is larger in the frame and less cropping is required and that's all that matters to me.

I never said otherwise, but the reason for that is not the crop. It's because of the size of the pixels.

I can care less about all that crop this or resize that to see which body is better because I won't be doing any of that. It's a fact that the apparent reach is there with a crop vs ff body. I don't care what's on paper or what's theoretical, but I do care what I see with my eyes and my eyes don't lie.

If it looks like you are closer to the subject because it is spread over more pixels, then your eyes are tricking you, because pixel density and focal length do not change perspective, and that's why I don't use the term "reach". It's "spread", as in, spread or magnified over more pixels. You do not "reach" the subject.

Not as big a nightmare as that bird's hairdresser has!

Wonderful shot and amazing bird Kester.

The headpiece looks like a slice of a citrus fruit, and looks like it would get in the way of eating.

Methodical,
Your results don't lie either, you have posted some great photos.

Here is the curve ball however and trick question.....
What will be the difference between the new 5dS full frame cropped to 22mpixels and the 7dii, shot from the same distance and with the same lense?

Scroll...

my Answer: nothing relative to zoom, spread, reach, crop factor, OR Dof! . Why, because both sensors would wind up with the same number of pixels on the duck, And dof will be the same because now the circle of confusion I expect to be the same because of same pixel pitch/size/density. (as stated, same FL and distance too)

For these reasons, I am not sure why practical benefits there are for high megapixel sensor with same pixel pitch/size (geometry relationship as stated) for non focal length limited shooting? (when cropping not necessary) Essentially, I don't see a noise or dof benefit existing for non FL shooting.
What do you guys think?

I think it's just to satisfy those folks who keep wanting more MPs in a camera. Keep feeding the beast.

After our recent snow storm, my daughter and I went out and shot some snow scenes. I would normally grab my 6d, but considering the snow was still falling and it was a very wet snow I forced myself to take the 7d2. Here are a few "non-wildlife" shots with the 7d2. I was very pleased. All shot with the 24-105 f4 IS L.

Spent a little time at the Cosumnes River Preserve - tracking mode 2

Was very impressed at how well my shots came out; camera ignored the reeds as glided in for a landing

Imagine, trying to get sharp shots on the side of a steep hill in a dark/dense forest at 1/80th of a second at 800mm equivalent. What a nightmare !! :D

The best I could get of this little guy was him looking over his shoulder taunting me; took about 30-40 shots trying to anticipate the area and then lock on for a BIF.

Using my 2(x) for equivalent 400mm with every one either a blank shot of the sky or a blurry image; little buggers are fast!
