Cheers Jeff, wonderful sharp shots, looks like you should hang on to that TC.

Did you have ITR on? I thought that would grab the face.

Am I reading the points correctly, the first one looks like the active point is the one to the left that is not over the target?

Now I used the screen copy command command+shift+4 on a iMac to cut those out of the canon software so I could get the AF points

Remember also the ones I shot today are a good 80 feet and with the 70-300L and the Kenko 1.4 pro300 and its the first time I've been able to get ok stuff using the kenko. As you can see it dosent always grab the face at long distances

So am I following along correctly? You are using 65 points/iTR AF for these photographs?

And this is working with your 70-300L along with your Kenko 1.4X?

I currently have iTR AF disabled. I didn't realize it only works in one of the zone AF options or the 65 point auto.

OK.... something else I'll try. I have been using center point with and without 4 and 8 point expansion for almost all my shots. I haven't bothered with zone or 65 points at all. In fact, I had them turned off so I'd have less choices to go through on AF selection.

I'll try 65 points with larger birds next time we have a non rainy, non work day. With iTR AF enable, as well, of course.

I only use three settings Spot, centre 25, and All 65 . I never use the expansion at all, it just seemed if I could get that close than I should make the effort and get there with the centre point on its own. I regularly shoot birds in flight now with centre only.

Yesterday way to far out there for a 300mm

Nice dinner shot!. Haven't had much luck with the full 65. Went out the other day and out of 50 shots all were OOF. Some shot in a clear blue sky with some ducks. Focus was on subject but most were not. Ducks were within 100ft.

Went back out with center point today much better. Now to figure out getting better exposure. Shot a vultures and a crow. Birds were really dark. Sun was behind me. Graph looked good.

I may make an effort and see what I can do with 65 AF points. I must say I haven't used 65 as much as 25 thats for sure
