That is looking very sweet.

I am interested to hear how everyone gets on with the Tamron on the 7DII, particularly is they ex 7D users (I currently shoot the Tamron and the 7DI).

Finally managed to get a good shot today with my 7D2 so after all my complaining I figured I show it off  Probably should have pushed the shutter speed up another bit. He ran away shortly after this shot was taken but I couldn't keep the focus point on him to get a good shot of the action.

settings: AI servo, F6.3, auto ISO @ 100, 1/1250 sec 70-300L @ 300, handheld, SOOC jpg as usual
pic was zoomed in to 50%, cropped and resized to 1024x768 for posting.

Rod

Congratulation Rod. I recon the is quite a tough subject to AF on too, only contrast is in the eye and eye-stripe.

Red Squirrel, the first one i have ever seen, and photographed.

Beautiful shot.

I haven't seen a red squirrel in the wild since I was a boy (1960s).

Where did you go to see one?

Thanks, not sure I would have been able to get it with the 6D being the reach. Factoring in the crop factor and cropping the photo itself further I can't complain with the results.

Rod I'd love to see one. Where do I have to go?

I had to look this up but this is what I found:

The willow ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus) is a bird in the grouse subfamily Tetraoninae of the pheasant family Phasianidae. It is also known as the willow grouse and in the British Isles, where it was previously believed to be a separate species, as the red grouse. It is a sedentary species, breeding in birch and other forests and moorlands in northern Europe, the tundra of Scandinavia, Siberia, Alaska and northern Canada, in particular in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the state bird of Alaska.

So, subarctic. Above the tree line you get rock ptarmigan. In my search I usually just drive out the highway (not sure highway is the right description) and hope I see some. I'm sitting on 52.6 degrees North. Don' t know how far south they venture. Based on the description above your destination will be either north west or noth east.:-)

I cant compete with what is up here..
finally took camera out after dropping my oldest off at soccer practice. It is cold and windy and dark out... perfect testing of this camera with my bad glass... I know glass before body but at some point you need a good body starting point. I am in AWE !!!!

would not take my t2i outside at these conditions!!!!

let me know what i can do better - but remember this was just a go out and bash through the settings!...

Here's a shot from last night at ISO 10,000 with the Canon 10-18mm.

QUOTED IMAGE

Nice.

Thanks for the high ISO shot. It is pretty noisy as one would expect. Did you process the image at all? What was you aperture and shutter speed?

I presently shoot concerts with my T5i and will be shooting mountain biking and summer sports soon. I keep debating upgrading to the 7D mkII for the extra stop or so of light, better focusing and other features or just getting a used 5D mkIII for the same price. Your photo is about what my T5i looks like at ISO 6400.

f/4.5, 1/500, ISO 10,000. I made adjustments to Contrast, Shadows, Highlights, Blacks, Clarity and Color. No noise reduction at all.

Maybe one day we'll be able to take high iso photos without any noise but for me the graininess makes this a wonderful photo.

Amen to that. I often add grain to images for effect. It certainly has its place.

Starting to get a chance now to try for actual photos instead of test shots. I already know that I need a 100-400 or something longer than my 70-200. But when eagles drop by, you don't have time to run out to the camera store. Just sharp enough that I could crop and get something useful.
