Scary moment. Looked like a serious knee injury. Found out a day later it was a dislocated knee cap.

Hey that's all right. I'm still trying t get a feel for the non-wildlife aspect of the camera before making a decision on either selling either my 6D or the 7Dmk2. So keep on posting! Personally I'd like to see more landscapes!

I did a very unscientific study the other day of shooting a non-lit dimly lit lamp shade with both cameras. Using a 50 1.8 ii I used the same settings, handheld, and trying to frame the 6d for the same perceived FL. I'll say IQ was a lot closer then I thought it would be with the main difference obviously being the FL and DOF. The DOF difference was pretty striking however.

Maybe this weekend I'll do a better example with my tripod.

Hey Doc,
Hoping you can share your comments.
Do you notice any differences with the performance on the 7dii vs 7dc with that 70-200 f2.8ii+2xiii? I used mine extensively and mostly have been happy.

I really can't comment because I didn't have the 2xiii very long before I got the 7DII so I didn't use it very much with the 7Dc.

I think that decision should be based on what kind of shooting that you do. The right tool for the right job thing. For me, shooting mostly sports, it wouldn't be a hard decision.

Doc

this is what I had to decide... 6D will do awesome for my indoor stuff (kids concerts, indoor functions, MMA) and it will do ok in my other 90%... Outdoor travel soccer, outdoor street hockey

so I had to weigh in and decided the 7md2 would do best for me... in reality 2 cameras could be the best approach... some day ... some day...(or a 1dx which will be more affordable when 1dxii comes out!!!)

Pat (if I remember the name right), I've looked at a lot of your photos and you do pretty good. I think we are both getting better the more we shoot and learn. I am definitely no expert. At least, I don't have to fight the dungeons that are high school stadiums like you do.

I'm coming from a 7Dc to the 7DII (still use the 7Dc as a second camera) and don't know much about the 70D. What impresses me about my 7DII is how fast the AF is at acquiring focus and how well the noise at high ISO's cleans up in Lightroom. I was lucky in that I didn't get one of the 7DII's that has focus problems. Or, at least, I'm not critical enough to tell. Usually when I miss focus it is a failure in technique on my part. But every once in awhile, I do have a shot where I missed that has me scratching my head.

One thing that looking at the shots where I missed focus (usually in short burst shots), I saw where I was getting too quick in hitting the focus button (I use back button focus) before I had my focus point (I use single point expanded to 8) where I wanted it. That would throw the whole burst off. I have made myself slow down to make sure I had the focus point where I wanted it but hitting the focus button.

I'm getting off the subject of your question, though. I definitely like my 7DII over my 7Dc but I don't have any experience with the 70D to give you much help in deciding. I would think you would like the AF of the 7DII better.

thanks I use the center 9 cross points and back button But I dont know if I got it set up right
my 1d2 seems to be sharper but it doesnt have the low light power the 70d does I think Id like a 1d4 or 1dx but if the 7d2 is close for less Id might be willing to pull the trigger. As always funds are needed lol
the shots here are great
better than mine at this time

I agree with that. The bird shots here and the ones of Pondrader's little friends are outstanding.

Burnet,
You may remember me from the 70d thread, I sold my 70d and bought a used 1d4. I switched from the 1d4 to the 7d2 and have been very happy with it.
The additional AF points, customization of those points, user interface and size are just ideal for me. High ISO performance is better than the 70d, AF tracking is much better, increased buffer and the ergonomics are better in my opinion.
See if you can get one in your hands to check it out.
