Canon EOS 7D Mark II • Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM

A few weekends ago, got to take the new camera out to Laguna Seca and give it a try - I found the AF system to be very impressive, my keeper rate seems to be much higher with the 7DII compared with my 7D. Love the camera, for me it was a worthwhile upgrade.

I'm mainly here for the snacks

We interrupt the spectacular photos to bring you horse racing from Kentucky. Keeneland in Lexington, KY April 4, 2015 and the Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. A nice $600,000 to the winner and a spot in the Kentucky Derby as one of the favorites.

Canon 7D Mark II with Canon 70-300mm L Settings: Manual at f/7.1 to get large DOF, 1/1000 sec., minimum to stop action, auto ISO and plus 2/3 EC. Both of these were ISO 4000

Carpe Diem moments before winning the race. I used auto ISO for situations like this. The ISO was 1600 in shots about 50 yards prior to this image.

I ran the luminance noise up to about 35 on these through lightroom, anybody have any better ways to reduce the noise without hurting to detail? These were shot at ISO 5000

I've been reducing the noise in Lightroom. After that I move the sharpen slider up to about 75-80 and then, holding the alt key, move the mask slider up until I see that just the edges are being sharpened. This way you sharpen the edges (or whatever detailed areas) and don't sharpen the background, etc. and bring the noise back in those areas.

Well, I've sent my 7D2 off to canon this morning.

After 37k clicks since November, the metering doesn't seem to be working. For example, in AV mode and a bright outdoor scene it's giving me f/4, 15 seconds, ISO400. Also something is rattling around inside the body. Asked them to check the AF too although I've been getting good results with it.

The top of the window says ShutterCount. It looks like the one available from DIRE Studio.
