Still experimenting and waiting for what most people call spring to arrive. Decided to post a couple more shots. Both with the camera in M mode, F6.3, 1/2000 sec., 70-300L and auto ISO. Both are SOOC jpegs. These are not cropped just resized originals.

Not sure about anyone else but for me it seems I was much more involved in the picture taking process when I was shooting film: set shutter speed and aperature to get correct exposure and desired effect. With these 'automatic' cameras I tend to set things up for what I plan to shoot and forget to check / reset the settings the next time I go out unless I am trying to do something specific. Now I mostly just pick the camera up and shoot with looking at the settings being almost an after thought. Maybe it is a carry over from my P&S camera.

Squirrel March 28 @ 300mm ISO 6400 due to thick tree cover.
Landscape (?) April 18 @ 70mm ISO 158

Sounds like you have some dirt, debris or a hair on the focusing screen or maybe the inside of the viewfinder. A rocket blower should take care of it. Give the entire chamber a good going over and see if it clears it up. You can remove the focusing screen to give it a better cleaning but if it isn't affecting the photos or driving you crazy you could leave it.

That it is out of focus indicates it is on the mirror.

I use a super bright LED stick and this brush:

http://smile.amazon.com …age_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (external link)

Fully extended it is a very soft brush and it has not damaged either my 70D or 7D2 mirror. The light shows the dust easily and you can gently brush it off with that brush. Just be extremely careful as the mirror is front silvered, the metal is on the front instead of behind glass, so it can be damaged easily.

Hmm, hard to tell from the pic. The focusing screen is harder to get to, unless you have a removal tool and just pull it out.
