That tree closest to the centre looks nice and straight to me. Makes sense that LR would choose this for that image.

Again, the scene is extremely complex. How is LR supposed to pick that one tree out of that entire scene and decide it is the one to base the entire correction on? The auto setting works when there is a clearly defined horizon or obvious horizontal or vertical features like buildings, etc. You can't expect an algorithm to be that judicious. Humans still have to provide some input once in a while.

I want a 7D2 after looking at the great shots here Its better for sports than my 70d
Its a better option than getting a 1d4 or a 1dx money wise
and Im to dumb to get the sharpness that I see in so many pictures here

I have a 40D with all cds manuals cords 2 batteries charger grip ect It has 100k on it with a 17-55 4-5.6 kit lens
CPS serviced at 98k I really dont use it anymore
works like new Not a mark on it except a little by the front of the shutter button from my finger

I have a 1d2 I dont know shutter count I love this camera in the light It seems to be sharper than my 70d
Or Im to dumb to get the same sharpness
Charger 2 batteries manual cords cd's

how do use these to get a 7d2?
Ive looked to sell online maybe 400 for both

I think the Canon Loyalty Program is for discounts on Canon Refurbished Cameras. I don't think they are offering refurbished 7DII's yet.

But I have been known to be wrong before. ;)

Love my 7DII for sports. Don't even want to shoot my 7Dc anymore but still use it as a second body. And my old 40D is sitting in a drawer right now.

so my take...
i just checked ebay...
i search in advanced and sold items..
your 1dm2 is typically pulling in $300...
but the oddball that happens and someone sold one for $800????? 6 bidders.. go figure..

i believe you can get $200-$300 for the 40d....

so even if you found that lucky bidding war partners and got $800 for your 1dm2.. you still have to pay fees, etc and your still $500 short for a 7dm2 if you got $300 for your 40d.

best way is to keep saving and sell what you dont need and place money away for that purpose and dont use it. AND/OR... then go to amazon.com and use the 1yr 0% finance...

me i sold a truck part and got $900 of $1500 then nabbed $600 from my bonus (Wife got other $5900).... thus it was doable for me.
I was going to so get a 70d as it is in my price range more than the 7dm2 but so glad i did....

and on sharpness... it is gonna be your lenses. I still cant get the crazy sharpness that people are getting here and it is ticking me off. I am not sure if they are OOBERLY sharpening in LR or if minimal and just nailed all settings and have tack sharp equipment....

If your question is if you'd get "better" sports shots with the 7d2 over the 70D, my experience is yes you will. IMO the 7d2 tracks better, fires more frames per second and is more sports customizeable (sp) than the 70d. Is it worth the extra money for a casual shooter? - for me it was.

Just took this through my somewhat non clean window when a squirrel ran down our backyard fence.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Doc

I called the loyalty program a few weeks back hoping to get a deal on a refurb SL1, all they were offering was 5 or 10% off (can't remember which) on direct sale new cameras.

I still have my 70D...it isn't getting much love right now. I keep asking my wife if she wants to learn but she doesn't seem too interested yet.

Re: level - auto leveling in imaging programs try to find something it thinks should be straight (tree, horizon, pole, etc) and uses that to key off of to make the image straight. I find you are much better off manually rotating the image. Leveling data is NOT a meta data field in an image so Lightroom etc wouldn't have that information to use when auto leveling an image.

I find mine to be really accurate and I use it regularly as I tend to lean the camera frequently..
