This hummer stayed long enough to pose for me while I captured several photographs of it!!! 7D2 + 400 2.8L II 'non-IS' + Canon 1.4x II and 2x II TC's (stacked)... 1,120mm FOV, 1,792 with crop factor... Portrait mode with no cropping on this image... NONE!!! Took a few moments to find this guy through the viewfinder... LOL!!! ISO 400, f/8 @ 1/80sec... Two second shutter release timer on-camera...

:-P

Okay, the local university's sports seasons are over, so being bored, I decided to sit on the patio on my backyard and try to shoot some of the small birds that flitter back and forth. I now have a lot more respect for you guys that get all the super sharp bird photos. I don't have any 300mm or 400mm lenses (any of you guys want to buy me one) so I was having to try to make due with what I have.

The first afternoon I put on my 70-200mm f/2.8 version one plus a 2X III extender. I was shooting handheld at 1/1000 of a second at f/8 (it was a darker overcast day) and I don't know if I was getting some camera shake or I need to MAF the combination some more or if it was just the combination but I couldn't get a photo that was as sharp as I would have liked. Below was the best I could do.

The next afternoon I decided to shoot with just the 70-200. The photos were sharper but none of the birds were very close and I had to crop so much that the images were very degraded.

I'm going to have to work at and experiment with this more. There is nothing like a challenge to learn how to get better. I did manage to completely bore Lacie, my Rhodesian Ridgeback. :)

I knew there was a catch. :) I've told about 6 photographer friends that I shoot McNeese sports with that if I win the Powerball or Megamillion that we will all have a lot of new equipment. And I meant it.

It is definitely springtime going on summer down here.

I just had two Otter's take me to school just before lunch today,...They swam over to the rocks I normally sit on and did some fishing about 150 feet away then disappeared,..I went back to shooting the Loon and a few minutes later they were sitting on the bank right beside me. As I turned to look at them they ran and my camera was on the tripod facing the other way. All I could do was watch and smile.

Last weekend shooting the Kits I had the 7D and the 70-200 f4 over my shoulder and it really helps in those situations. Having one on the tripod and one to swing is the way to go
,.....
This is hand held after I got the camera off the tripod ,... They didn't give me much!!
