For my 100-400mm II, I found the same - around 0 bare and +12 with the 1.4XIII, at the tele end. At the wide end, about 0 and 0 respectively.

Probably explains why my crops are limited with my 1.4. I'll have to get out to a park on a non windy and Dot Tune it.

+1 to awesome hummers in Texas!!!
I've had the feeders out for 4 weeks now and NOTHING.
Even keep the lightstands setup and ready, along with a dummy camera on a tripod
next to the feeders.
Well I can at least appreciate your efforts and sharing.

Super job Will, MedicineMan I've shot most of mine off hand with the 100-400LII. And it's so great to have the freedom, lol

I know you have been trying. I had excellent late afternoon light yesterday so I was able to boost the shutter speed. Thanks for the comments.

I keep thinking about this. 0 MFA for bare and +12 with the TC. Either it does not say much for Canons manufacturing accuracy or your bare gear's normal spec variation was on the fringe of being acceptable and the TC just exploited that. 12 just seems like a lot to me.

None of my lenses need much of MFA. That is good and what should be expected if Canon has done its job. All those lenses should also work well with my SL1 body which doesn't do MFA.

But the 100-400mmII / 1.4XIII combo does need a big adjustment. I'm OK with that. It seems like a bit of an illicit kludge anyway. Doing the calibrating was not a big deal, and I'm happy it works well now.

So are all my lenses and bodies including that combo but that is still a pretty big shift. It would not bug me either because it is an add on. I think even Canon would laugh at me if I sent all 3 pieces in. It would not do me much good when I took it off :-)

I'm not going to worry about it when I see a big shift which I'm expecting. When I MFA I expect to be shooting at 560mm most of the time so it will work out fine.

When I get to it I'll report. Is that cropped and if so by how much? It is only the real pushed crops that with the TC that I notice this.
