I practically never even remember it's there since I'm coming from FF bodies over the past couple years. I've seen talk of using it for subtle fill light here and there, but I don't know if I've seen any proper examples. It doesn't seem to have much manual control (e.g. EC+/- in AV or M,) correct?
Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Im also a big flash bouncer so I started experimenting handholding with my left hand a folded piece of 8.5x11 of white paper and using it to bounce the flash over my shoulder and up into the ceiling and I was pretty surprised how good it was. In terms of control - I'm assuming you are talking about FEC and EC. I did test this out, and at least in M mode, I'm certain there is FEC - works same as on a 5D3 with an external flash. If you are in Manual mode and Auto ISO, and then you pop the flash, it jumps to 400 ISO - so you can't use EC in Manual Mode with Auto ISO - but you can change the ISO to a fixed ISO - but remember that the camera will still show it is in Auto ISO but definitely pegs the ISO at 400. While in AV mode, Auto ISO will again jump to ISO 400. If you have a Min shutter speed set, and ISO 400 is not enough for you chosen Exposure (and EC), if will still give you the correct Exposure but will lower your SS to whatever level is needed using ISO 400 (not really Auto ISO). You will still have control of both FEC and EC. The camera's flash can also be turned into a Manual Power output flash in the flash menu if you wish - and it works well. Because of the camera's built in flash, I actually started to bring the 7D2 to small family events such as birthdays, where typically the lights are turned out for the birthday cake. I have tried FEC -1 and also FEC +1 when bounced back and over my shoulder with my 8.5x11 piece of white paper and both work well - I have a small flash I can put on the 5D3 but it makes the camera a little too big for family events. The 7D2 is also great for video because of the dual pixel autofocus so again it is great little video camera - for lenses I will either use the Canon 24-105 if I know we are going to be outside or the Sigma 18-35 1.8 if we are going to be indoors and the light isn't great or the 15-85 if I want to shoot a lot of video and need the width. Thanks! That's exactly what I was getting at with my question. Great idea about the bouncing as well - can't hurt to have a small white index card for those small room situations – I'll have to play with the manual exposure soon as see how it operates.

I guessed a manual flash setting, based on nothing at all, just that I thought it wouldn't be strong, and then I got a WHITE-OUT. I'm sure I can look up the guide number somewhere but that little flash is stronger than I thought it was going to be. Hockey and wedding photographer. Jul 13, 2015 14:09 | #5714 The 7D2 is better than the 70D.....but it really depends on your use cases if it's going to be worth the extra money to you. Owning both, I haven't pulled my 70D out for months now. Still wondering if I should keep the thing honestly. Cameras: 7D2, S100
