Mark that shot is just beautiful. Focus looks great was it on the head of the bird in the middle of the group on the left? Fabulous shot.

Wow awesome shots with 7D II guys and it helps when you have the super telephoto lens from Canon. I wonder if this 7DII will be a good combo with my Tamron 150-600mm.

Matt did you have a chance to shoot more with Tamron 150-600mm and 7D II combo?

The videos from Rudy Winston are very helpful. I am trying out the Auto ISO setting, with limits set as he describes for ISO and minimum shutter speed, shooting in Av mode. Seems to work as advertised. The focus is very snappy and the 10 fps is addictive.

This is about a 50% crop from about 15 meters distance, ISO 400, f/7.1, 1/1600 sec., handheld 7Dii w 400DO and 1.4 ext.

This photo is book worthy to me. I am blown away. Where are the videos from Rudy Winston?

Yes, yesterday and today. It works better than on my 60D I'd say for sure. I was getting sharp/in focus images with the auto 65pt AF even, on moving subjects. But I often used group AF/Zone or Spot AF.

The Tamron seems to AF faster/more accurately to me. But I should do more tests in comparison to my 60D. I had 5-10 shots in a row of a Heron in Flight, that were in focus for once, in low light/about 200ft away or more. Infront of a busy background. But my shutter speed was only 1/250-1/300th, so not fast enough to get it super sharp.

I went out this morning with the intent of finding a bird since it seems like thats what every one here shoots. Had myself a little adventure. Was winding down roads to chase these birds I could see from an insane distance. I used all 65 points and then point focus to tell the camera where to start and it focused nicely on 2 of 4 shots I took. Im struggling with it. Do I put the camera in continuous shooting mode and all servo and just fire away and it will keep following the bird? or do I do one shot and al servo and refocus with each shot?

Obviously I needed to get closer and realized I really need a new lens. I drove and I saw this little field with a pull off and I attempted to turn into the driveway with my sonata and overshot the drive way, sending my car into a 3 foot deep ditch. So there I was with my front drivers side wheel in the ditch, unable to even touch the ground, my back passenger tire about 2 feet in the air and the other two tires teetering back and forth because my drivers side kick plate was sitting on the edge of the drive. All I could think was "over a bird" and "my husband is going to kill me" lol. 45 minutes later and a cop and passerby jumping up and down in my trunk, we finally rocked the car enough for my front wheel drive to catch the grass and pull forward.

I continued on my bird watching journey because of course all the noise scared away the birds I was seeking. On the side of the road, I found my next bird and he was not a moving subject, but I have bird shots.

Yeah, I would say I have alot more shots that are sharp and in focus now than before. Also now I am much more comfortable shooting at ISO 1600-4000 even. 1600, even kind of under exposed, looks very good.

I think you have seen these, watch them all, he is very, very good at explaining the details, imho.

Thanks for your comment, probably the best butterfly photo I have ever taken, and on only the second day with the 7Dii, but I am strictly an amateur.

Cool thanks again. Now I am shooting ISO 1250 with the tamron 150-600mm and still looks good with my 7D. But I really like to shoot ISO 400 with it. So when I get the 7DII I should be really ok with 1250-1600 :).

I shot 1250 with my 60D and it was fine I thought. But you have to expose to the right. If its even somewhat under-exposed, it might be much noiser. I often exposure comp + to some degree, but it depends on the situation.

But most of the image data/detail is in the highlights/brighter parts of the image. So the closer you can get to being almost clipping the highlights, the better the image quality.

Just got mine this morning. I had orders thru adorama and canon direct, and still nothing coming. Backorders all.

So I followed a tip from another local poster on this thread and drove to Kenmore camera, who has about a dozen stacked on the shelf by the way, for anyone else local that is trying to get one.

I couldn't find a duck, but got a goose. Is that close enough?

I'll post it, but first I have to get the raw file converted.
