I'm late to the conversation but regarding grip, I had one and sent it back. I didn't like the weight and the bulk. It isn't "squared off" if you know what I mean, kind of flares out under the heel of your hand in landscape mode. I didn't care for it.
I carry 2 extra fully charged batteries but rarely need to switch.
I'm excited to say I ordered the Canon 100-400 ii, thanks to a few here that just relentlessly pester those of us on the fence re: this lens with photo after photo of sharp, contrasty, high quality images of things like foxes, pine martens, eagles, etc. You all know who you are!
My 7d2 is currently taking a ride on a big brown truck to visit Tamron USA with my 150-600 for them to try to make the 2 play nicer together.
We'll see how it goes.

Heavy. I feel it more and more every day, every trip. Sitting here in yet another airport and considering the kit and must tell you Pondrader I just preordered the Lumix 100-400mm. God knows I love my EOS stuff, if only time could go backwards even 10 years on my joints.
Well this trip will be a bust. Just saw its raining in Moline....at least we'll image tractors harvesters and combines.
Ontario is in February and that's the last I'll be carrying the heavy stuff for a long time. Iceland and Svalbard are in May. If I can't do them with mirrorless it just won't happen.

I had a grip in the film days and never relay liked it. There are days I'm glad I can't afford the 1DX because I prefer the 7D2 body shape.

JV congrats on the 100-400ii. Gotta be overall the best lens Canon ever made. I read about your travels with the Tam on the other thread. I think I'm lucky have the Tam in the Sony mount and so far no issues. I wonder after you get the 100-400ii how much you'll use the Tamron.

OK open mind and I actually like tractors! Can already imagine the green and yellow bokeh ....in fact brought along a 1.2 lens just for those John Deer colors :)

There are eagles around Robert but not any large concentration of them and unfortunately the rest of the plains states are a little ugly right now with snow melt, no foliage on trees, etc. The forecast is supposed to dump snow and cold temps through the weekend for parts of Iowa, not sure up at L&D14 though.

Have been in Costa Rica for several days but have not been shooting that much. Just enjoying the sun, snorkelling, etc. Only 33-35 Celsius midday. Every morning Lizzy shows up to warm up. About 2 ft in length. I'll get a better shot with the tail but it seems to like to move as soon as I get my camera out. I always have to go to a zoo for this. Going on some trips next week for some birding.

I googled around looking for it. It doesn't appear to have any suppliers in the United States.

For those of us in the US market, the off brand grip that has all the controls looks to be the Meike brand grip.

In the states I suggest to use Amazon for off-brand grips.

PSA- save yourself the analysis. Pond Rader posts very sharp images that sometimes appear to have a somewhat smeared look in some areas you would expect sharp. An example on this image is behind an down from the shoulder and high side ribcage fur. I believe the smear is from the POTN resizing for posting. If your were to track down a higher res copy, you would see the fine detail of that fur.

Looks like he's thinking, where have you been Jeff?

CB

I don't think that was it, I believe he was thinking- When is Jeff going to feed me?

lol Nope, I don't feed the critters Guy!! I seek out the food sources of animals to find the Critters themselves. I'm the guy that if someone shows up to something along the side of the road and starts baiting, well lets say I put them back in there car. If they are baiting and I show up... well I just leave as everyone is there own bait control board. It may look like I bait but I do not. I guess that speaks to just how good you are at finding and shooting wild game. I do welcome to to come see for yourself,.....As long as you don't talk about camera's LMAO I do feed birds and home but I don't see that as baiting...... thats feeding. Notice the lack of chowing in all my images. You can tell a baited animal a mile away.

I don't know if this will help Guy, I should have gone today, the light is much better. Of course all my images are sized down before I upload. I don't know if that has anything to do with it
