Looking at the images of others who have had the camera for a short period of time isn't a great way of making a decision IMO. They may not be your style, or they may not have perfected their techniques yet, if the store has a good return policy I would pick it up and see how you can do with it.

Something besides a bird shot.

I shot a college football game Saturday night and the lighting sucked. Here is a sideline shot at 16000. I converted it to a TIFF with DPP4 and then imported it into LR 5.6 for processing.

I know there is still noise but I was impressed. A lot better than my old 7D.

That looks really good from what I see. Do you have any action shots from the game using the 7DII?

Without having gone back through the entire thread, has anyone made use of the improved AF to f8 and taken, say, a 500f4 or 600f4 with a 2x and tried it out? Results & AF performance?

Wow, nice. I'm finding properly exposed and with a bit of proper PP that 16000 is quite useable.

Yes, I do and at varying ISO's. I decided to try Auto ISO on the camera. On manual, I set my shutter speed at 1/1250 and my aperture at F 2.8 and let the camera adjust the ISO for exposure.

When I get a little time, I'll post several action shots.

I love Auto ISO. And I am really happy that Canon decided to let us do exposure comp when in Auto ISO now.

I'm starting to use Auto ISO a little while experimenting with the 7DII. I didn't use it before because it zeroed out the exposure, which I didn't want for ETTR reasons; I think the exposure compensation feature is a must-have for using Auto ISO.

Yeah, I have never really played with ETTR much...mostly because I use Auto ISO so often. Now I can I did do a lot of bracketing though when we were on a trip earlier this year at Disney, and now that the 7D can fire off the shots even faster it makes that even more interesting. I didn't want to miss a shot b/c of exposure so I had it set at +- 2/3, outside like that on the little LCD even reading the histogram it's hard to tell if you really got the shot.

7d MKIII ?, WTF, I'm such an idiot, I hate my new keyboard. How do you type on these 2 sided bent in the middle things anyways. Almost makes me want to use my other 8 fingers. I agree might just be too soon to make a call on a new body. Good Idea on the return, maybe I'll order one from Best Buy to try out, I have 45 days to return it there. I would feal crappy about screwing over the camera store though.
