When I travel light, but want some versatility. I mount my Canon 70-300mm DO on a camera. This time the 7DII. I was staying in a Howard Johnson last Tuesday and while brushing my teeth, I realized the lighting for the mirror over the sink made an odd catchlight in my eyes. Voila, a square pupil, sort of. Couldn't resist getting the 7D mkll & Sigmonster out ..... took another moon shot the next night. I think that people are right about there being more detail in non full moon shots.
