No go on LR yet. You have to use DPP first to convert the RAWs to TIFF or another uncompressed format and then import to LR. I would expect the update with support to be coming soon.

I don't know about Photo Mechanic, but LR (I have LR5.6) will not process 7DII RAW files as of now; also, it will not even download the files.

So...I was thinking about the features of this camera...this thing is a paparazzi's dream camera. High FPS, advanced tracking AF, high on target pixel density, and quiet shutter...

What focus point/group were you using? If it was expanded around the central point then it may have focused on the nearest object. Just watched a video about it. The link is in another thread on here.

Yeah, was thinking about it. I'm not sure what AF mode I was in. It's very possible it was in Auto AF even or zone. Is that info in the EXIF? Definitely need to test more.

I did some quick tests this morning again, and didn't see my Tamron front or back focusing, but I gotta do it more accurately and in better light.

Something's definitely off there; I would suspect severe front-focusing, as well. I'd definitely spend some time with MFA on that sucker. I have a LensCal target on a tripod and will be headed up to the Photo Expo in Lynnwood on Saturday. If you want to try and meet up I can bring it along and let you borrow it for a while.

That shot is at F/7.1 at 600 to get a sharper image. Since 6.3 is often too soft, for who asked.

But you are correct, you always want the largest optical enlargement you can get to get the most out of the APS-C bodies. The more you fill the frame, the better and sharper the image is. It is the cropped birds from a larger frame that have a tendency to suffer IQ issues from something like the 7D in the past, where both glass and sensor/AA filter didn't create the best amount of detail.

I read it usually takes a month but I hope that person was wrong. I don't have any mass edits coming up to use LR so I just open in DPP, do the initial editing and then just use the transfer to PS tool as I do all my editing in PS for my hobby work.

I tried the 300/4L IS with the 2xIII and it focused, but obviously slower than without the TC, so those big whites should do much better, I'm sure, as they are sharper and have better AF mechanisms.

I'll post my results with the 500/fL II using the 2x III once I actually get my 7D2 (as I've vented earlier in this thread a few times, I still don't have it in my hands due to Amazon dropping the ball).

I never used the 2x with the 7D because of the inability to AF...

I have the 2xII which I'll try out. Both Canon and Sigma. I could crop so much with my 7D I just stopped using my 1.4. I might have to look into a 2xIII if the IQ is significantly better and I like the results with my 2x . I'll have to do some research.

I didn't notice a huge boost in IQ between the II and III versions of the 1.4x, but AF performance was definitely better. If the 2x isn't appreciably slower for AF than what I started with years ago (a 1.4x II, a 300f4, and a 30D), I'll be happy.

IIRC, Arthur also used to stack multiple TCs using extension tubes (and obviously, manual focus). He still got amazing quality images.

IIRC, it took LR about 2 weeks to update their raw converters for the 50D (which I got on release day). I have subsequently had to upgrade my LR and Photoshop versions to get ACR for newer cameras (the 7D and 6D, primarily)--but that's a gripe with Adobe's forced-obsolescence model more than anything else. I'm just hoping they don't force me to switch to Photoshop CC (I still use CS6) just to get the 7D2 into their ACR module... but I'm fully expecting it.

You are right. That is the scenario I am referring to.
I have no doubt that 7D2 is the best crop sensor camera today, and a great one too. I am not looking for math (otherwise I would consider a 20MegaPixel camera, with 1200mm Carl Zeiss lens ). I am just looking for the 7D2 owners, who also happen to own a 5D3, to compare their actual tight crops and confirm the advantage. If the the picture quality is not the same at 100% then the effective reach advantage is not 1.6x times. So the question is, what that number is in reality? Is it 1.4x or 1.2x? That would define if it is worth buying this camera as a second body in addition to 5D3, just for the extra reach.

Well they are adding D750 and D810 support to CS6 yet I think. So we might be ok. I use CS6 yet as well.

The 7D II is going to be more responsive than the 5D II as well, if you really need the speed. Also it might have a bigger buffer? Not sure on that. Also the Dual Pixel AF is nice. Definately faster than normal live view.
