Dave,

I'm using my Canon 580 EX 11 flash and Better Beamer. The secret is to set the flash to ETTL at 0 compensation. For the most part I'm waiting for the birds to get within 60' or less. I start out with my 70- 200 mm f/4 non IS set to 70 to pick the bird up in focus and zoom in tighter. My SS is 1/1000 sec or faster.

Hope this helps. I've been shooting with an amazing photographer named Daniel Cedras this week...

Nice shot of the eagle in flight Peter. I was lucky enough to have one hang around the farm
most of the week and never did get a good shot of it flying.

Thanks George and great shots on these too. I hope to see an Egret when we fly to Florida in 3 weeks. Never seen one before except when we went to San Diego Ca but that was in Sea World.

VERY nice Peter!!
I haven't had much opportunity to use the Tamron since getting the replacement. Just too danged busy and when I have time it seems the sun doesn't cooperate.
Your lens seems to be right on the money now, that's great!

Goldfinch stuffing itself with what I think is Alder seeds (not very good with trees).

You will for sure. There are tons of egrets in FL. Where are you going to be? They are in full nesting mode now. Send me a PM.

Dave,

It's taken me an extremely long period of time to get where I am. Made lots of mistakes. Let me know if I can help.
I had a very good teacher in a Community College in Virginia teach us how to shoot film.

Take care...

Most excellent work George. Love both the egret and eagle. Great isolation technique.
Here's an egret flying straight overhead from yesterday at the St Augustine Alligator Farm's rookery.
Love these magnificent animals.
