Just got off the phone with Canon Canada. They claim I need a "class 10" card.
Is that faster or slower than UDMA 7? She basically said 600x should be enough, speaking in those terms... I wish Canon would just say flat out, exactly what's needed on the website.

Class 10 would be the designation for an SD card to use in the camera; but if you're doing a bunch of burst shooting, you do not want that. You want a UDMA 7 CF card; the MkII only supports UHS-1 SD cards, which top out at something like 25 mb/s write speed. It takes a LOOONG time to write a burst of RAW to the SD card.

ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOTE...

I can't add the 7D2 body to my CPS account!!! Hehehehe... The don't have it listed in their 'add' menu... WHAT GIVES, CANON!!! Hehehehe... Hope they change that soon...

Class 10 refer to SD write speed w/ "minimum" guarantee write speed. eg: class 6=6MB/s, class 10=10MB/s. UDMA is a technology in the Compact Flash. So we are talking about apple and banana here. Place like B&H will tell you what is the maximum write speed for the card. So, that is a good place to do some research. Then again maximum isn't what you will get. By I think 7D2 support UDMA7 and UHS-1. If you get a CF card that support UDMA7 and SDXC with UHS-1, you will get at least a decent speed. And don't confuse CF(compact Flash) vs CFast as they are not interchangeable (not backward or forward compatible).

My first test shot. Cold and dreary out so I had to try something indoors with poor lighting. Not much but it proves the camera works.

1/200, F4.0, ISO 6400, Sigma 17-70mm Contemporary lens.

There are some SD with 45-90MB/s. So I doubt 25 is a top speed. Unless somebody have tried one of those in the 7D2 body.

One of a string of abour 30 shots (not a burst) ALL of which were in focus - including about 4 (this is one) where they were obstructed by tree branches above me. AF locked in and was most impressive (I was a bit worried about the 100-400).

Both taken with 7D MKII, 100-400mm, 1/1000s, 1st pic is ISO 250 | f/5.6, second ISO 100 | f/5.0. Second shot was just about straight into the sun, taken in Zone AF.

The camera is a gadget lover's dream - so many settings to learn and use!

Didn't get to play much this morning but what I did get to do was encouraging! Now maybe I can try and take a proper photograph.

Congrats Tom they look great. Glad to know the 100-400 works well with the camera.

You are probably getting tired of kitchen shots but I took a shot with my 2xII mounted on my 300L F4 IS at 12,800. No MFA and I circled the AF point. Next to my 5D3 this is the best AF body I've had to date IMO. Gotta get out into the real world. Hopefully tomorrow.

If that is true, thats gonna be awesome.

No one has bodies only right now. Only kit lens set ups. 2 more weeks is what im told. Anyone hear anything different

I bought a body-only in person at Best Buy in Union Square in NYC Friday night. They had them since Thursday. They still have them today, according to their website.

LOL, yeah, I noticed the same thing. I kept looking up and down the list wondering where it was. Not that I need the CPS points, mind you.

I also made myself update my equipment inventory for my insurer, removing the 7D and adding the 7D2, and making a long-needed addition of the 24-70 and removal of the 10-22 (as I don't use the latter professionally anymore).

hi well it certainly looks like canon has kicked a winner with the 7d mk 2 -so far from the comments and photos - and thanks to all for posting photos

it seems that handles noise pretty well and is well controlled probably up to 3200 - 6400 and even above and seems to be easier to remove - but probably similar in the range 100 to 800 to the 7d c

detail is quite good but its probably no better than the 7 d c or the 70 d but because the noise is better controlled the higher iso shots do look much better

the af is all it was cracked up to be and nails focus every time

and its is one of the best weather sealed cameras according to roger at lens rentals and his word is gold imho


so I will pick mine up tomorrow here in aus after sitting tight for a week to see what came out of the mix

The reviews, the specs and the images are impressive. I think if I could find one I would pick it up to use alongside my 5D3. GAH! I hate GAS.
