I believe the system does work with Live view stills and movie AF.

If so, good on it! I'm just barely thinking my way around simple (through the optical finder) stills. OK, so I'm a dinosaur. But what you say is there in the documentation - but I guess I just regarded it as marketing-speak, rather than something real that I might see in my photos.

Except I think I am seeing it in my photos (which is especially obvious while I'm confining myself to JPEGs; waiting for Adobe to come to the party with ACR/Lightroom).

My 7D 2 (body only) in on order from Amazon, but won't ship until they get their next batch in. In a way, I'm sort of relieved. By the time it ships, I'm guessing it will be that original release date of November 28th or so and by then, Lightroom and Photoshop will most likely be updated to include the 7D 2. I'm so used to using both of them in conjunction with the Nik Collection, I'd rather not change.

I'll also be ordering the RRS or Kirk L bracket and regular bracket for a grip. Those should also be available by then (crosses fingers).

That being said, these are definitely first world problems. ;)

I read in some pages back about folks complaining about battery life.

I charged by battery, as I do in the same way with my batteries of the 7D and 5DIII.

It took a few hours to charge the battery that came along with the 7DII. Later that evening I spent about a hour going through the menu to set it up. During this process my battery died on me.
Ok, so I get another one I have, and install it and keep going.

I put the original battery that came with the 7DII back on the charger to recharge yesterday evening, before going to bed. This morning it still was blinking yellow.

My conclusion at this point is a faulty battery, it should of been fully charged.

So others who have been complaining about short life span with there battery full charged, may just be a bad batch of batteries coming with the camera, and not the camera being a battery hog.

Will have to investigate further...

For those still looking to buy... Just saw Adorama is now bundling a free cam ranger with the 7dII KIT!
Wish my salesman would have given me that info since I just bought one from them.

He probably wouldn't have known - 'Marketing' aren't very forthcoming about upcoming promos!

So email me your order# Helen@adorama.com (external link) and I'll see if I can get a match for you

Well the good news is everything is in transit. Hopefully Old Man Winter will stay away for a few more days and Monday will be Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy.

The camera shipped via ground service as that is what I requested since free ND service was not offered by Adorama when I pre-ordered on 9-17. I never went back and asked them to change the shipping when they offered ND service.

The good news is that right now we are offering free expedited shipping on orders over $49 adr.ma/1qpHZGs pic.twitter.com/Un2tk1dqOX

Boy, the are trying to move those kits aren't they. I thought about one, but didn't want to get stuck with the lens.

They have some other great bundles, too. Check out the 600 II bundle.

I'm really going to be in trouble. I never ever used DPP, so it will be like driving for the 1st time. I hope to use it for a football game tomorrow. If I do I may shoot raw and jpeg.

The lens is not something you get stuck with. It's very capable and rockin for video. Those STM lenses are the only way to really unlock all of the features, like the slow video focus change or electronic MF.

Cameras: 7D2, S100
Lenses: 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, 18-135 STM, 24-70 f/4L IS USM, 50 f/1.4 USM,70-300L IS USM
Other Stuff: 430 EX II, Luma Labs Loop 3, CamRanger

I'm not a video guy (yet) so that's good to know. If you'd told me this earlier, I may have purchased the kit to give it a whirl.

I believe it's due to the new IR and RGB metering system, it is very useful for better WB analysis, exposure, and probably AF as well. Not sure about AF, but IR aware sensors can help with AF if utilized properly, IR can see things that are quite difficult in the visible spectrum. I believe the system does work with Live view stills and movie AF.

The 7D2 will engage the 150k RGB+IR metering sensor for AF assistance when in all points tracking in Servo AF through the viewfinder. This metering sensor is not active during Liveview (still or video) as the mirror is up and it blocks the OVF metering sensor. Liveview uses the dual pixel AF system for autofocus and uses the main imaging sensor for metering, white balance, etc.

**Update**
Spoke with vendor's tech department, advised to continue using the other battery and see if it to has a short charged battery cycle also. If it does, there's a issue with Camera, if not, its the original battery that's faulty.
He further said, it should not of fully discharged in a hour of just setting up camera.

My 7D2 will arrive Monday and I'm dreading not being able to use LR with raw...and hearing the reviews of DPP 4. I have always used LR or PE but have the DPP disk for my 7D with DPP 3.11, which appears to be a bit easier to use. Will I be able to use DPP 3.11 with with the 7D2 raw files?

Hmmmmm several Amazon third party sellers who are out of stock updated their 7D 2 status to "due in stock November 9th or 10th).

I might get mine earlier than I thought.
