Evil, pure evil I say to rub it in like that. I did see one this mid-morning, one, and for all of a split second..then the chipmunk showed up
seriously trying my patience.

I got some shots of one yesterday afternoon but haven't had time to process them, yet. A BlueJay landed and was trying to get to the small platform feeder but was blocked by two Whitewing Doves that were on the feeder. The doves are about the only bird that shows up that are bigger than the Jay. The Jay had to wait around to get his turn on the feeder and couldn't hit and run as usual.

Well I guess I do feel a little ...well ... um....I'm drowning in them.!! I had 10 I think all day. There is one beast I dislike more than the Chipmunk....Thats the Grackle ...hate them bullies and I think they carry off more seed than anything in the yard. And there so shifty you can hardly see them...

Wonderful capture of a shifty creature. We get the Grackles at most one week a year, probably as they are headed to you neck of the woods. I do think the blue Grackles are beautiful and honestly I've never seen a brown one like this and your image really is beautiful despite their attitude.

Boat tailed grackles are more common than sparrows here, by the tens of thousands all year long. They bully my feeders too, although they are anything but secretive. The females are brown, males black. I sometimes get huge congregations of thousands of them in my back yard, like those murmurations of crows. The local wetlands get them too. At sundown. I have one photo of the murmuration but it was taken with a Sony A6000, I started a new thread in the "birds" forum with the photo. It's impressive.

This is a 7D2 shot of a few of them at dusk.

This juvenile looks a lot like a Brown Headed Cowbird. They are known to place their eggs in nests of other birds and it causes the host bird to raise the parasite bird.

I figured you would know the difference. Just posting for knowledge for others that may not know. It took me awhile to figure out the difference when I saw some at a local bird blind and wondered why they had a different colored head.

Brown headed cowbirds have shorter and stubbier beaks and don't have the yellow eyes. This definitely looks like a juvie grackle.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I was out with my 5DIII with the 50L attached and the 7DII with the 200F2.8L attached, to be honest its hard to pick the difference between the image quality of the cameras sometimes, I can alternate those lenses and often have to go to the metadata to see which camera was used

Edit: What's the deal with the board not seeing the exif data from the Flickr links tonight????

Chucking it down outside so decided in really crap light to try out the 2X extender that I´ve hardly used and see how the AF works in bad conditions. Was happilly surprised. Croped a bit as I cut the bottom off :) and a bit of head movement going on I think plus high ISO.
