Here is an old picture from when I first got my 7D-Mark II. I was riding my motorcycle when I spied this guy landing in the top of a very tall pine tree. So I stopped and took a few snap shots. It appears there are other things besides blackbirds and crows that pester these guys. Surprisingly the gnats buzzing around him came out very clearly.

100% crop. Camera 7D-Mark II; Lens EF 100-400 Mark I at 400mm; 1/1250 F-9 ISO640

Yes, that combination of camera and lens looks good. I have a shot of a gold finch picking something off a leaf with the 7D2 and a Bigma. Cropped, I could clearly see it was eating aphids.

With the GPS on, it almost lasts through an airshow (lots of shooting) for me. Or a day of driving and taking pictures of animals and scenery. With the GPS off, it does last a lot longer.

Congrats, Julie!

thanks, hoping to sell at least two more to help pay for the printing and framing side of it as well as having a profit. Not in it for the money but nice to sell something

Just bought one of my dream lens this morning and tried it out after a few hours. No pp done except cropping. I love it.

Yeah, same here. I can shoot all day with two batteries, easily.
In fact, I was in Peru recently with some guys who were shooting Sonys, and I was ribbing them pretty hard because they were constantly changing batteries. While my 7dii just went on and on.

Just picked up my 7D mkii. I also have a 6D that has been my favorite for a while now because of the low light capabilities. In fact I learned that I could push the 6D so hard with ETTR that it would virtually eliminate the shadow noise. With this camera, maybe because the smaller sensor, it won't tolerate it so much, but.......properly exposed, it does quite well. Not sure the high ISO is much different from the 6D. The colors appear to be better, but I still have alot to learn. What absolutely shines is the 10fps and focus system, it's unbelievable, especially as compared to the 6D.

Thanks
Dave

Um...

Ever since I sold my Pentax p30T and brought a cybershot (2.1MP :p ) in the 90's, I've always had digital cameras and since getting a Fujifilm S2Pro, have always had crop bodies:

Fujifilm S2pro
Canon 40D
Canon 7D
Canon 7DII (current)

I worked, not just as an auto journo (shooting events and features), but as the official photographer for D1NZ and a short stint as an editor of one of the mags I used to submit to...

Your photographer acquaintance is misinformed! :p

Yes I agree, the thing is this person is more into wildlife and sees that so many of the pro wildlife shooters are using 1DX or 1DXII or the equivilent in Nikons. But they also are using lenses that I could never afford and often are getting way closer than I can to the wildlife. They also spend hours waiting in hides for these shots. Im more a handheld shooter and I dont have the ability to get to some places where I can get close, when I do I sometimes use my 5DIII but to be honest there is not that much difference between the cameras for the most part. For me its about reach and Im also seeing some great shots out of the 7DII by pro wildlife photographers when they just need that reach. To be honest I often cant pick the camera used unless they say which one it is. This aquaintance is what Id call a techie snob. :-D and they also are not too good photographing wildlife anyway and believe that if they get the most expensive set up they will miraculously become a great photographer
