Yes I agree, the thing is this person is more into wildlife and sees that so many of the pro wildlife shooters are using 1DX or 1DXII or the equivilent in Nikons. But they also are using lenses that I could never afford and often are getting way closer than I can to the wildlife. They also spend hours waiting in hides for these shots. Im more a handheld shooter and I dont have the ability to get to some places where I can get close, when I do I sometimes use my 5DIII but to be honest there is not that much difference between the cameras for the most part. For me its about reach and Im also seeing some great shots out of the 7DII by pro wildlife photographers when they just need that reach. To be honest I often cant pick the camera used unless they say which one it is. This aquaintance is what Id call a techie snob.

and they also are not too good photographing wildlife anyway and believe that if they get the most expensive set up they will miraculously become a great photographer
I'll go out on a limb here and say, I actually see the 7D and more recently, the 7DII as Professional cameras; not high end pro-sumer cameras...
Obviously, Canon do too, as they designated them as single digit cameras (don't ask me why the 6D is a single digit camera...this makes no sense to me at all)
While I began shooting motorsport (and mostly drift) with my S2Pro, then 40D; the move to a 7D was because this was [In effect] Canon's Pro grade sports/action camera...and now, the 7DII is...
Not ALL crops are entry level, and, not all FF are 'Pro spec' (insert 6D here)
