Thanks. Those were during the golden hour in light that's rare during our winter eagle season. Not the best backgrounds, but I was happy to do more than track gulls and cormorants. The brief outing makes me even more eager for the arrival of eagle and owl season.

Terrific eagle shots, Severnum! I too was out birding today and the only thing that happened was that a bald eagle pooped all over my car. Damn, what a mess it way. Luckily, my OCD personality does not let me leave home without a full complement of detailing supplies in the trunk, so the paint job was rescued without much trouble!

 Our big flocks of Fraser Skagit Snow Geese require some caution. Luckily I've never had that problem with eagles, but I have missed a few poop shots with the 7D. Now with the extra FPS and AF speed no eagle's privacy is safe.

Damn. But you are using the 1DX or 1D IV otherwise, correct?

I'm still unsure myself. I could use that money towards the Sigma 150-600, Canon 400 5.6 or something else, which might result in better images/more keepers.

I just need to spend a bit more time with the camera maybe. Although I've tried many combos/options in different situations so far, without a huge difference vs. my 60D.

I did some indoor shooting, using a flash on the dogs. The Mark II was a bit more responsive, but not drastically. Again, I don't think I got more keepers than my 60D, as I went back and forth between the bodies.

The Mark II was a bit faster/more responsive, and makes it easier for compositions and accessing settings. But I'm not sure if its worth 1500$ right now.....

Using a 1dx. Think I will just get the new 100-400 when it releases.

Fix the WB, up the exposure by 1/3-1/2 and clean up the background, this is an absolute keeper.

Too rich for my blood. I do want to get the Kenko for my 70-300L and see how it does on the 7D2 though.

I hope its a winner for you and the IQ is good enough for you

If all goes well I might be able to get this lens next year and maybe even early. It is very interesting to me.

I have the Kenko for my 100-400L and my 7D2 should be delivered Monday. I intended to give it a try so I will see if I can make it happen Monday.

Hi guys,

What is your battery life when you shoot video?

I charged the 2 batteries from my 7D and put them in the 7DII ... after 2 shots, 5 minutes of video and maybe 15 minutes of menu browsing and configuration ... a battery is down to 16 and the other one to 74 ....

On my 7D they last for ages ....

Can you guys do the following experiment: charge a battery to 100% , record 10 minutes of video and post your battery life?

^battery life wouldn't have anything to do with the GPs eh? seems like on my 6D I have to physically enter the menu functions and disable it or battery life suffers, a lot. Just throwing out a guess.

As an aside, I've posted samples in the bird forums of 1600, 3200 and 6400 on the same bird (a Mallard, course); in an effort to avoid cross-posting images too much, the thread is here:
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1406128

I think it is safe to say that with proper exposure, ISO noise up to 6400 is a complete non-issue. Similar to the previous body, underexposure is going to make things trickier, but even there it isn't TOO bad (I'll have some 6400 - 12800 flag football shots up in Sports in the next couple of days).

As a side note, for folks unhappy with not having built-in WIFI; talked to a Canon rep at a convention yesterday and he said that the camera has built-in menu support for Eye-Fi cards. If you pop one in, there is a new menu that will show up to allow you to configure and make use of that card.

Only had a little time out with birds, but so far I'm happy with the performance compared to my 7D and 5D3.

First outing with the 7D2 + 600mm f/4L IS II + 1.4x III, Bald Eagle at Semiahmoo Spit near Blaine, WA:
