Not sure I understand, Cropping the image has nothing to do with it being out of focus. I cropped to showcase the sequence easier.

Edit: Now you could easily say it front focused and I should micro adjust my lens but it also back focused several times. My point is it struggled to focus even though I was right on his face in perfectly good light. I moved my focusing point around slightly after viewing each image to try and see if it would grab focus anywhere else. My only guess is maybe the harsh sunlight on his face confused the AF.

Edit 2: Going through my images and the bigger the magnifcation I have on a subject the easier it is to grab focus however if your subject is smaller, The Auto Focus can have a harder time grabbing focus. This is a quote I read over at Canonrumors forums recently. I think this applies to my situation.

I am a victim of this as well. With the focus point as illustrated in your shot above (focus point extends beyond body) with the center point then my camera seems to get confused and focus doesn't settle. My camera has done this from day one. Using spot for smaller objects has helped a lot. Anyway, this should be in a focus issue thread so I'll stop here.

Do you think you could do a test? Look at the menus to get the current battery charge percent and leave it in camera for a day or two. If you go out to shoot, use a different battery and put the one you left at home back in when you get home. Write down the battery percent after each 24 hours and do this for a could of days. My battery loses at least 10% per week.

I wonder if it the battery design itself. My T3i can sit unused for months and the battery drops very little (battery is LP-E8). The 7D2 and the 5D4 both use the same battery and both models of camera seem to experience battery drain.

I lived in a rural city of about 33 thousand, we have an annual agricultural show every year. Today I went along to it. The wood chopping guys are pretty big but very fit. I took this in mid chop, strange that some people dont see the axe in the middle at first glance.

Most batteries steadily lose charge over time, specially if they are connected to a device even if the device is turned off. These days cameras sit in a standby/idle mode when "off" - 10% a week isn't bad, if you really want to save battery power take them out. I should try a similar test on 5DC and 6D.

Archibald wrote in post #18182240 (external link)
Yeah, I am not surprised at some percent loss per week.

I just checked my two spares, which were charged to 100% about 4 weeks ago and never put into the camera.

- Four-year-old Canon battery: 83%.
- New 3rd party Fosmon battery: 100%.

Wow, surprised to see 100% retention of the Fosmon. It drains fast when in the camera.

I don't deny that a battery can lose charge over time either in or out of the device. However, there are other Canon cameras like the original 7d, that did not show a demonstrative different rate of loss like the 7dii does.

@DesolateMirror, you can prove this to yourselves. Charged battery, put in camera and notate percent. Leave it in for X days, notate new percent. Now charge again and note percent, take it out, wait the same X days, and notate percent. I bet you'll find 10x difference. If it was the original or some other canons, the loss would be the same. Hence my desire to know whether the firmware addresses this issue.

Good thought, but the answer is No. The 7d and 7dii share batteries. There are two versions, but both versions act the same way. Like your T3, there is no additional loss in the orig 7d, unlike the 7dii.

Something different. Every Veteran's Day (and maybe Memorial Day, too), there is a group that puts up flags at a local cemetery in what they call the "Avenue of Flags" All of the flags are casket flags from former servicemen which are loaned from the families for the display.

It is very impressive but hard to capture the magnitude of the number of flags and the backgrounds are very busy. I think a drone shot of the whole cemetery showing all the flags lining all the roadways in the cemetery would be impressive.

I did the best I could to get some decent photos in the short time I had. Nothing really great.

I think there is not enough contrast for an accurate contrast. If you convert it to black and white the iguana and the background will look very similar.

I marvel at the sharpness any of you get
I know most of you are shooting at a higher f stop than I do
part of the game when shooting sports I guess

I have to get better
I read posts here
I read manuals
I watch youtube
I listen to others at games

I cant seem to even get in the ball park with you fine shooters
IDK if its me, my settings, my crappy post processing skills or what I use LR and cant figure out PS
or maybe Im just to stupid

I have a 7d2 and a 70-200 2.8
and mine look like they were taken by a first grader with a point and shoot

frustrating

great shots
I will continue to be envious until I get smarter or something

ty all of you for posting

thanks

Don't be so hard on yourself. It's the crappy light that us night time sports shooters face.
