this wasn't really spoken about so much and it is a cheap lens
but i never really was impressed by the 40mm pancake because I didn't like the focal length
but if the 24mm is as good (or better) than the 40mm optically
then I think I have found a fun light lens that I can see myslef really enjoying.

anyone else?

$150 and the reputation of the 40 alone make it exciting (I have and love my 40, but in contrast to most others, I think it's great on both FF and crop)

The new 24mm f2.8 is an EF-S lens not EF. So I wouldn't get too excited if I were you ;)

No. I've got the 40STM on a 6D, and the 22F2 on the M. The new lens pales.

Yess! If i hadnt given my 650D to my brother i would buy it simply because it is a good price even if the optics are bad (whaz i dont think) only because its small.

I hope my girlfriend gets this one so i cant get my 40 pancake back which ive borrowed her (for almost a year :P)

Im once more satisfied with canons lens lineup. Theres still the 40mm Pancake which is roughly the same on a fullframe camera (yeah, yeah there are DOF differences and ISO advantage of FF) but still.

Theres still hope for you ;-)a

There you go.
I'm waiting for a EF 28mm pancake if it ever comes.

Not excited anymore considering it's an EF-S. boo to canon.

Let us crop shooters have something to play with for once. We've been waiting for an EF-S prime for ages. Finally Canon has decided to release an EF-S that is not a slow normal zoom, I thought that day would never come :P

I wasn't that thrilled about the slow-ish aperture at first, but now that the price has been revealed, it looks like a much more appealing lens.

I think it's good to have more affordable primes, and I'm happy for the crop shooters, but I don't understand why it isn't f/2 like the EFM 22mm pancake.

Yeah, but, EF lenses work on your camera. You basically have a 35mm now. For a true 24mm focal length this would have had to been a 15mm.

Sony like Nikon have a built in APS-C crop mode ;)

It's its anything like the 22mm 2.0 pancake then I imagine it'll be a huge hit, that's my favorite Canon lens.

No,

24mm is 24mm. 15mm is 15mm. Those are true focal lengths.

You're describing field of view.

There's a difference, and it's not just rhetorical. Depth of field for example.

Very best,
