Hello dear friends.
Even though I'm still in love with my 1DX,
Still a "bit" of disappointment from the last repair.

205k on the body which is 2 years old.
Just came back from Canon Mississauga.

Still think the toughest bodies on the planet can have a longer live.
And it's never been on the rain or desert or any other crazy weather environment strictly Weddings and never used 14 fps.

Especially frustrating to see Canon's advertising where they are repeating every single time - "performance without compromise, for up to 400,000 cycles. "
And of course it's not covered by Canon Canada warranty as body is 2 y.o.

Not good Canon, not good.

The thing is non one can predict when they'll go, some last 20 clicks some last 800,000.

But yeah Canon should warranty them for 400,000 clicks at least for the amount you pay, hopefully your insurance company covered it.

A few years ago I spoke with a person at Ipex in Birmingham. They had made a machine which scanned books to electronic format. A conventional scanner was too slow, so they made a machine which flipped pages in a book and mounted a Canon 1Ds Mark III in the machine, to take a photo of each page.
The camera was of course in an ideal position, never being handled, just shooting click - click - click. When the shutter wore out, the rest of the camera still looked brand new.

These shutters typically lasted three million clicks, ten times the advertised life at that time. Since the rest of the camera was like new, they replaced the shutter and ran another set of three million clicks or so.

So they can last long, but they don't have to.

It just is what it is. I've had a 1D2 shutter that lasted less than 20k clicks and a 1D3 that lasted over 500k (somewhat in focus) clicks.

Sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you don't. 200k clicks is nothing to be ashamed of.

Already contacted my CPS consultant and answer was "it;s out of warranty"
and "400,000 cycles" works if it's with in one year of warranty, so you have to pay".

The repair cost about $280 CAD, but it's not about money.
It's about how you as a Business owner doing everything for your client, and huge corporations are doing Nothing for their clients. Even after you spent so much $ on your equipment.

250k clicks is pretty good honestly although more would be nice on a body that goes for so much money

Its not a guarantee. Its a tested shutter count. One of my DX1 died at 161000 and had to replace the shutter out of pocket while I have a 7D body around 700000 clicks and still counting.

I think Canon should stand by their durability claims. They could easily come back with 1 year no quibble warranty. A stated expected life of a shutter say 400,000 and a guarantee up to 300,000 for 3 years. In the first year Canon pay the post both ways. And in year 2 to 3 the customer pays the postage.
In the scheme of things it wouldn't cost them much - but would be fabulous peace of mind for us users.

It's about how you as a Business owner doing everything for your client, and huge corporations are doing Nothing for their clients. Even after you spent so much $ on your equipment.

How do you figure that? If it were under warranty, they would repair it for free. Just because they claim it is up to 400k clicks doesn't mean that is part of the warranty. The durability is simply a generalized reference number to judge between models, not a written in stone warranty claim. Just because you spent a lot of $ doesn't mean they should fix something has never been stated in the warranty.

I don't feel they have let anyone down, nor that big corps are screwing the little guy in this case. I think more often the consumer has a sense of entitlement that is tied to their emotional need to find something to blame when a failure occurs.
