Very distant shots of a Hobby hunting dragonflies. Hobbys are like scaled up swallows in-flight. The IQ is a rubbish but I hope you find the behaviour of interest.

#1 just missed, the dragon went one way and our hero the other

#2 missed again, a back-flip didn't help

IMAGE: http://www.ware.myzen.co.uk/GalleryPics/Photos/Birds/Birds%20of%20Prey/birds%207D%20Hobby%20B_006_13-06-14.jpg

#3 success, feed on the wing

Wow, some catch, Lester. And I mean for you. But obviously for him too as he had to work hard for it. I had no idea they ate dragonflies. Fascinating stuff.

Thanks all for the kind comments, as always very much appreciated.

My understanding is they tend to catch dragonflies in spring to feed to the new chicks.

When the chicks get bigger the adults move on to catching small birds and feed those to the little ones

That's a really cool sequence Lester. Can't help feeling he used more energy catching the dragon than he gained by eating it!
