I'm working on a book (external link) where I travel around and ask people I meet one question: What is your dream in life?

This portrait and interview is a page out of it, of a young woman (who is going through the change from a man to a woman). I met her while walking around the streets of a small town in the Northwest Territories.

It's a composite of two images, both by myself. I go into detail about the book and process on my website if anyone's keen. Here's the image and my meeting with her:

KARL: "So, what is your dream? A pretty heavy question, I know"

JODI: (laughs) "It's kind of hard to answer, before i had a difficult unrealistic dream: One world religion, world peace and all that crap.. and i find, it's become a little closer to home, something I can achieve.

Obviously, I'm a little bit different compared to most people..and I'm part of a very small minority. Which has a bad view as it is.

I'd like to be one of the people who change people's view of what I am, what we mean as people.

And so basically, I want to be successful."

I want people to look at me and think I am respectable."

Karl: "Well, I think you are for sure..I think when I first heard... I thought: 'Good for her. Truly.' "

"It takes a lot of guts to be WHO you are, and really not only WHAT but WHO you are inside.

I think you are respectable; for working towards your vision, you know? Whatever that vision is .. it is really cool."

I think the text needs filling out. I read the words, but have no idea what either of you are talking about!?!

Not only that but the image LOOKS like a composite, and I can't figure out what the reasoning for it is, or why it is significant. A random building, gravel, and a no parking sign? ???

Ah ..sorry ..I should have mentioned. She originally was a man, going through the change to become a woman - the text describes that experience

Here is the back story. I blend a bit of my dream in with everyone I meet - to see less light pollution in our skies. wherever I travel to meet people I photograph them where they are, usually in the street somewhere. Then I create a composite of it to show how different it could look at night, I figure to raise awareness and go along the dreamer theme (as dreams happen at night)

Thanks for the replies I shall clarify more, so also:

I made a potn post about it here:

I think she will be pleased to hear it's not so obvious from first glance :)

I wouldn't have guessed from the photo.
