I have a Mk1 DO and adore it so the MkII is very very tempting (IF I can get a reasonable trade-in deal!).

I'm very tempted to upgrade my 400 DO too but find the UK price difficult to swallow. I'll probably be importing this one.
The US price is around $2500 cheaper than UK; even allowing for VAT thats well over £1000 more expensive at current exchange rates. Equivalent UK price should be around £5000!
Possibly the most scandalous price differential I can remember on a Canon lens.

I know what you mean but I really would be worried getting an import on something of that value plus I do have my existing one to trade in which would hopefully ease the pain somewhat. I can't imagine that flogging it privately would be terribly easy with it being such a niche and expensive bit of kit! The trouble is that I want the new one so I have no doubt I shall find a way of doing it. "I want" is immensely powerful in my house

WilliamC you might try on this forum. I sold a Sigma 120-300 quickly and got the ball rolling just by mentioning in a thread that I needed to sell it due to its weight. Costs nothing to try the for sale section here at POTN (or I don't think it costs anything).

I agree importing does carry some extra risk but the savings on this one will be large and I've done it before without issue. If you want to sell gear without the hassle I'd recommennd MBP Photographic. They pay very fair prices in my expeience, much better than what many Canon dealers offer as a trade-in. Even if you don't import I'd consider selling to them then looking for the keenest price afterward. MPB's offers are usually not far off what you get on ebay (after fees) with none of the concerns over scammers/insurance/shi​pping etc.

And I thought that my 400mm DO is already super sharp with nice bokeh, no room for improvement. This version II just surpassed my expectation.

Anyone want to buy my 400mm DO?

*JK. No way I would sell my 400mm DO, unless someone wants to trade it with a Mazda RX-8...

Who is to say that they wont? It's not like Canon would re release all of their super tele's all at the same time for Photokina even if this was a break through technology improvement over the first versions and I'm not saying it is because I just don't know.

Sounds like I'll have to concede to you that perhaps there is some DO tech breakthrough at Canon and I'm likely living the past with my comments on DO lenses:

Awesome. You found it. I wanted to post this for you but couldn't remember where I read it. I was looking at so many articles about Photokina stuff that I couldn't remember where I read it.

Wish I had this lens for my 7D.

Really? NO kidding.

I'm only replying because I can't believe that I might actually get to buy this lens shortly.

Been working on the wife for a while, getting her used to the idea that some lenses cost $10k+ and hopefully will be getting some extra cash shortly. Got a Sigma 150-600C. It's nice, but I'm now prepared to pay the extra for better speed, AF and IQ. I guess I might also need to upgrade from a 1.4TC vI to a vIII although I think I will see what the lens does with the v1 on it first - I'm guessing finding a comparison of those on this lens is not going to be easy.

Then I need a 7DII for AF at f8 with a 2xTC of course!
