I will admit that I have never eagerly anticipated the announcement of any camera as much as the 7D II. With that said, I also have not paid so close attention to how long it takes for sample images to surface once a new camera has been announced. Is this normal? One would think that if Canon has finally hit a home run, they'd want to boast all about it. Are they just trying to see how many people will preorder before the disappointing results surface? Or are they modestly holding out just for fun, knowing well that they produced a super camera? What's the deal?! I'm dying in anticipation to see more :(

Considering the camera was announced as a product a few days ago and has not yet been made widely available for retail sale, the surprise would be if there were large numbers of sample images available.

In most cases, it's hard to judge something that you can't buy - except in online forums, of course.

It's because the danged 20mb files are too big and everybody's hard drives have filled up. ;)

Plus, isn't the camera available for purchase only in November? Pretty hard to get photos from a camera that nobody has yet.

You missed the point. The camera "exists" and is in the hands of people at photokina, beta testers and obviously canon reps and their marketing team. I am surprised Canon themselves have not released some raw images showcasing what it is capable of.

There are samples, even some raw ones. Just not many yet. They will come.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

It has quite the same IQ as the 70d, so you should know what to expect? Better AF won't be tested in Photokina.

Those are not final production units I suspect. Strange that Canon is not releasing the RAWs unless that is because they have not released the code to open the 7D2 RAW. Most converters are usually a few weeks to a couple of months behind the release of the camera before they update their programming. I suspect DPP will be the first out with the ability to display the raw data.

Proof of the same IQ as the 70D? Same sized sensor does not a proof make.

It's also because it's a production model and no the final. Speculation aside, I think from what I have read from the spec sheet that it will be a really good camera. I cant wait to see what it can do in the hands of a completely independent review.

And those won't be around until after the 11/28 release date.

Perfect! Just in time for ski + snowboard season! :) FWIW, I put a lot of faith into Canon, crossed my fingers and put a deposit down yesterday (locally) for pre-order. I cannot wait! Beau Photo (here in Vancouver) also threw in a $100 voucher towards equipment rentals as a bonus for preordering. Pretty stoked!

I hope they beat the scheduled release time. I also wish a few Benjamins mysteriously appear in my bank account so I can pre-order one.

Canon is pushing the strengths of the 7D where it will have a distinct advantage over the other bodies. Image quality isn't going to be better than the 6D, 5D series or the more recent incarnations of the 1D line.

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.
