I need to get my 17-55mm 2.8 repaired. The IS is failing (image jitters a lot and takes a long time to settle down)

I contacted canon and they said that the IS repair does not come with the standard repair cost but could not provide me a price. Since standard repair starts at $220 I'm not sure if i can afford much more. Ive used canon before though and they did a good job (after all it is their product)

Contacted United Camera & Binocular Co and got a fast reply and quote of $239 but I've never used them. has anyone else? do they do a good job and work fast ?

I cannot speak for United, but I have used BDC Camera in Madison, WI and for my needs they were considerably cheaper than Canon was on the 2 occasions I needed them. Not sure if United is local to you, or you were looking to ship it out. I don't know if they would quote something like that without having the lens in house first.
