passwords !

seems no matter what i do i can't keep track of my passwords,and locked out of my accounts,we didn't have computers when i was in high school so in my 30's slowly learned and still learning ! so how are people storing there passwords,on what and where to have quick access to them when needed! for a short time i had roboform a password manager it work until they wanted to charge me for there service,now i'm keeping my PW's in a book near my PC. kind of works but not vary safe,any one have ideas!thanks..

I use LastPass. The browser plug-in is installed in every browser on all of my PCs and I pay $12/yr to access it on my mobile devices. Well worth it.

KeePass 2/professional, which is free. I have the encrypted password file kept in dropbox and sync'd to my android phone, which I can view and update using this app. I don't know if there's a browser plugin, I tried a few when I had an older password manager and found them annoying, so I do it manually.

this seems like a good idea,never even though of dropbox! thank you sir.

I keep a document in box.net which has the IDs and passwords in it. But in there, they are just the right clues, and partial passwords. Enough so that I can know it but nobody else could really figure it out.

It also contains software product keys.

What drives me batsh(t crazy is sites and apps which force new and ever more complex passwords into the mix. Hard to keep up with that.

By the way, when my brother worked on an IBM support desk, he found that password forced changes and complex rules just led to most employees putting passwords on post it notes.

Passwordbox is quite good, also generates new random ones (and saves them).

Another vote for KeePass. I have both the desktop version as well as mobile app.

My password is always password, so I never worry about remembering it.

I never use passwords but rather pass phrases associated with mental pictures.

I do a little of most that has been posted.

1) I keep my passwords simple, but complex enough to satisfy most sites... at least 8 letters and 2 numbers.

2) I keep an abbreviation of my password added (by edit) to each Chrome bookmark link on my laptop browser.

3) I export all my chrome bookmarks regularly as an html to a private file on GoogleDrive - that I can access with my Android smartphone or any other pc.

I use 1Password by Agile Bits on all my devices (iPhone, iPad, Macs)

It's the best password manager I've used, especially if you use multiple devices and/or in a mixed environment of Macs and PCs.

I don't even try to remember forum passwords. I just hit the "I forgot link" if needed.

For passwords I care about (email password is the most critical and you better have two factor turned on) they are stored on encrypted thumb drives.

I go old school. I have an address book from the $1 store that I use to post my info.
