I am using Elinchrom FX 400 Ri kit , when I am using different powers i.e, in one strobe I set to 2.0 (lowest power) and another set to 4.0. Now the problem is, the strobe with lowest power fires first and after a small interval of time, the second strobe fires :-(. Help me out with if there's any settings has to be changed?

Thanks in advance
Shankar J

They should be firing together and the head with a higher power setting taking longer to cycle than the other head.

It sounds like the pre-flash setting isn't correct, I don't know if this applies to the FX400 but you can refer to the documentation of a D-lite head here http://elinchrom.com …/120313_D-LiteRX-2-4s.pdf (external link)

Refer to pages 11 - 12 and that'll hopefully fix it for you.

What are you using to trigger them? Skyport? Skyport Eco? Optical slave trigger?

Does it happen if they're both at the same power setting? Try swapping the power settings, change one from 2.0 to 4.0 and the other from 4.0 down to 2.0.

Nice to see another Bangalorean here :-). I use Master RX (600Ws) and FRX200 kits and I have not observed this issue with either of the sets when fired at different power settings.

Dont know your strobes, as I use Bowens.
One mine there is a setting, that allows one to miss a user definable number of preflashes.

You might be able to achieve that result but I doubt it as the optical cell on the second strobe should pick up the first flashes flash and fire the second. As the flash duration is so quick ( in my case either 1/1100 sec or 1/2200 sec ) its really one flash. You definitely cant see the difference.
Sounds like the optical slave on the second is faulty. Thats assuming you left enough time for them to cycle up to full power before going for the real flash.

I've got a variety of Elinchrom lights. I would also suggest setting the late firing unit into optical trigger mode and see what happens.
