I didnt know if i should post this in critique section or here, but i guess since my question is only about the starry sky, i thought you could give me better answers.

Is this the way to go when it comes to postprocess starry sky images?

Not sure exactly what your asking , what type of look are you going for ? Looks like maybe your going for HDR look with a painted look . Personally I'd just call it art . One thing I would do is try to fix that blow out on the left front of the ship and maybe do some color adjustments on the sky .

I was trying to do a night sky shot, but after all this heavy PP i think i might have overdone it? Im okay with unreal looking images, in the end its actually what i try to opt for. But if it looks cheap made and too noizy i dont want to waste money on a print. Does it look like a quality image to you?

What would you correct in the sky colors?

Basically my question is, how is the PP on the sky?

Like Celestron said, it depends what you are looking for?

Is that purplish band supposed to be the Milky way? Because if it is, then yes you've over done it. What's the original look like? It's hard to say how PP something is with nothing to compare.

I'm not sure what that is, it's either lens flare or a very high up cloud. To be honest I prefer the unedited version, but that's just personal taste.

As soon as ive posted it the more i thought it could really be lens flare from the bright light left.

When i get time tonight i'll try working the original in PS with some Topaz plugina or Niks software and see what i can do with it but if there is a way to just tone down the brightness in the front of the ship and adjust the sky more like a night time sky then it would be better . As far as the object that looks like a MW i doubt that is what it is . Possibility of a dirty lens or maybe streaks from your last lens clean . Hard to tell there but i do believe there is some amount of lens flare as you mentioned .

Could be that the lens is dirty too, which may increase the amount of flare.

I started all over: Ive removed the light on the left, and tried to bring the stars up more gently. Made a mask out of the red channel and used it to overlay a white layer only of the stars. Then a black layer for the night sky. Tweaked the opacity and the blending and reduced a bit of noise.

To me it looks better now what do you think?

I worked on it awhile in my Topaz Plug-ins and in PS Cs5 . I have an image saved similar to yours but I can't post it cause you do not have Image Editing Ok posted . But I managed to get some of that red trash look out . What I did notice is you do have some vignetting of the top corners which was hard to get out unless I darkened the sky . I'll hold on to it for a day or so and if you want me to post it let me know and I will but not unless you say it's ok . I'm pretty sure tho what looked like a MW is lens flare and almost impossible to remove .
