Unfortunately camera gear can be very expensive in the UK, in part because of a 20% VAT, so a direct exchange-rate conversion of a US price is not in fact that useful to the OP.

A quick look at one online retailer I found in the UK (canon.co.uk have a list of links) shows the 16-35mm f/4 IS at £999 and the 24mm f/2.8 IS at £459, both including VAT. I have no idea whether that's good or bad, but that price for the zoom is quite a bit more expensive than the price in Australian even after adjusting for our lower VAT (the 24mm price is not).

Should also point out the the US cost is not always that simple either....If you are a US citizen buying in the US, you have to add an additional State Tax to the final cost. We in the UK have a simple VAT system that's the same cost for everyone so simple to include it in the final cost.

That said, I belive their State Tax is less than half of our VAT.

Per Ken Rockwell, the best FF wide angle lens is the 16-35mm or 17-40:

Don't think KR has updated his list, wgt the 16-35 f4 IS.

Apart form this: I bought a mint 17-40 this summer, and am happier with it than with my 24-105/4
