Absolutely, every time we look at that image in the VF, we see the shot we want, complete with the light, detail and colours... then the camera goes and does something bonkers because of the way it's metered the light or the way the WB has perceived the colours.
I've often found that in NL shots, the image came out too blue as a result of AWB andoften over-exposed or with horribly blown highlights in many places. I understand it's better to do NL in more overcast conditions where harsh sunlight is not a problem.
However for these if I dropped down the EC -1/3 EV and set WB to Cloudy. What you see here is almost the image out of the camera. I did actually dial down the saturation of the yellows a touch, raised the shadows a touch and also burned out highlights on the wings a bit.
Need to do more NL practice. Just frustrating trying to get a decent shutter speed without compromising DoF or by going too high in ISO.
I think 1600 is the limit for NL and dependant on the distance from subject, F6/3 is probably too open but it was needed to maintain a shutter speed fast enough for hand held.
