What Do You Think of Sunpak Flat Panel Flash?

I was looking in the B&H catalog that I just got about 2 weeks ago looking for lighting gear. I had been toying with buying a flat panel flash. Sunpak makes a small one that advertizes that it substitutes for a softbox. Has anyone used one of these and is it worth $100 to get one?

Never heard a good thing about the concept except from someone who photographed food and needed a close up macro light source with minimal heat output... he thought they were brilliant.

To replace a softbox they would need to start at a size of at least 2ft x 2ft... and be available upto maybe 4ft x 3ft

B&H does sell a larger version, probably the cost of the 580EX. I just got a off camera hot shoe so I'm okay to get one, but I agree, it wouldn't make sense if not doing macro. I can't believe it would replace a true softbox for portraits.

No, it's much too small for portraits. It's designed for small products such as jewelry.
