A pair of young skimmers showed up and put on an entertaining show at Huntington Beach State Park yesterday. They raced back and forth along a 100-feet long stretch of the marsh for several minutes, making quick, graceful U-turn when reaching the ends. Eventually, it looked like each of them had 2 small fish. It was a hard way to get a small snack.

Lighting was very bad, e.g. total overcast. But, it was still an enjoyable morning.

#1 - Popped up above the water to avoid a flock of wood storks foraging for food in the marsh ...

Tim, seeing that you are in California, I think you might be thinking about Huntington Beach in southern California. These pictures were taken yesterday at the Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina (http://www.carolinabirdclub.org/sites/SC/huntington.html (external link)). In any event, they were taken along the causeway that separates the fresh water marsh from the salt water one.

Very nice set Linh. You were about 5 minutes from my home. HBSP is my favorite local shooting place. I didn't bother going Saturday, overcast and the wind was blowing pretty good. It's an awesome place to shoot Skimmers when the water is glassy.

This ^^^ ! Words from the local pro! I was not 100% happy with the choppy water reducing the visibility of the water trail made by the skimmers ... but I forgot the wind factor. Thanks for the insight.
