Opinions of EF 40 STM

I've recently upgraded from a 7D to a 6D and among other things, I'm liking that its smaller and lighter than my old body. I normally carry a film body around with me so I try to keep things light. My nifty fifty is seeing much more use because its more suited to FF than a crop body but I would like a wider prime.

I was looking at the Sigma 35mm Art but its quite a big and heavy lens for a prime. Its about the same size and weight as my 24-105L. The EF 40 STM is not quite as wide as I'd like but its size and weight certainly appeals. I've read some reviews but I'd like to hear the opinions of shooters who actually own it please

I have it and I like it.

Sometimes, I'll remove the grip from my 5d-3, add the 40 Pancake and, with the Black Rapid strap, use it as a comfortable, fairly lightweight setup for walks around the neighborhood.

40mm pancake is superb for its size and price. Just take a look at 40mm thread:

SIgma 35 is way to big IMO, take a look at canon 35mm F/2 IS, I'm thinking of switching to that one, but probably wont anytime soon. 40mm and 6D are match made in heaven.

The 40mm is brilliant. People need to stop buying the 50mm 1.8 and get the pancake instead.

Alternatively look at the 35 f2 IS.

Great lens, I don't use it enough.

I take it with my 100L for a wide, long, minimal street combo.

A terrific "bang for the buck" lens. The focal length works well for me on full frame, the lens is great wide open, and you cannot beat the size. I take the lens with me almost everywhere, since it takes up almost no space in the camera bag.
