Hi there,
My 5D classic doesnt take pictures anymore. the famous error 99
I made a video of it.
https://www.youtube.com …KtdktwHaNvjlziRwA&index=1 (external link)
From what i have read on the internet many things can be the problem.
I have changed lenses and cf cards and still the same. The only thing i cant try is diferent battery wich beleive it or not i dont have one and in my town i cant find someone using canon 5d or type of camera that uses same battery. Someone said it could be the battery.
Also i saw a video on youtube about using alcholol but i will keep that for last option. I dont know if the shutter is totaly dead, or some dust is stuck in it.

I was in Portugal for a month volunteering, and the weather was realy hot and dusty, and at night was realy moisty. My 5D died after a week i arrived there. That night i was making long exposure image of an old house, it made one picture but on the next the problem ocured.

After 5 years of using it it had to happen there   . I had to borrow volunteers point and shoot cameras to feed my soul.

The camera and batteries are realy old, i bought it second hand, and its been used alot before.
The AA filter was also replaced.

yes its me :D cant beleive 4 years past since then.

Plus i made a repair of the mirror when it fell of. Glued with 50 cent glue and worked like that for 2 years.

So i want to be sure if the shutter is dead, thats why i made this video, because i guess many of you have encountered similar issues.
Whatever it is, im thankfull for this camera how much it served me all this years.

really hard to tell from the video wether it's broken or not, probably easiest to tell if you set camera to mirror lockup and watch while lens is off while taking a reasonably long exposure (anything longer than a few seconds would be the way to go)

hit the shutter button once to get the mirror up then have a really good look at the shutter before it fires, then see what's happening during the exposure. Usually a broken shutter will have one of the leaves floating around on one of the rivets so is not hard to spot.

error 99 on it's own could really be anything...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Honestly i cant notice anything something like that.
I saw a video about nikon shutter problems, and how to fix it buy removing the bottom plate of the camera and clean the red whll.

Does canon has similar design?
And why i cant see the sensor? Even when i go sensor cleaning it doesnt show up.

The Canon's don't have the same baseplate design, they're more of a front & back clamshell arrangement.
I suspect if you're not seeing the sensor at all, then it could be any number of things from simple i.e. a blown fuse or connector come adrift, or it could be a faulty board, or the shutter itself.

Probably your best option is send it in to Canon & get them to quote for repairs, then decide whether it's worth fixing at that stage.
