Sep 23, 2014 08:30 | #6 I don't see where in that link it says Canon will join m43. It talks about Canon making a new system and speculates that it will be around the m43 size. What did I miss?

Usually the first entry into a market has a lot of kinks to work out. Why would they rush in to a market they are unsure of? Basically other companies do the R&D and first "beta" for them. They get to see what works and what doesn't and bake this in to their first offering. Does it cost them some sales? Sure. But when they come on 2 years later with a superior product, people buy it.

It's a nice theory, but in practice it hasn't worked out. Canon sat on the sidelines for years while other companies developed mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. So, according to the theory their first entry into the world of mirrorless should have had all the kinks worked out, right? Not the case! The EOS M was an embarrassingly feeble entry into mirrorless - way-underperforming as compared to other manufacturers' products. David | Flickr

I would rather them skip it and just work out those kinks with the EOS M that they should have already worked out since all those other companies were supposedly doing R&D for them. ![]() I never said they couldn't screw it up - but they have the information available.

A strong, proven lens line up already exists in m43 so a Canon m43 camera could have higher adoption from the start as people are not put off by lack of lenses.

They already have the EOS-M, and pair this with a "pancake" lens, you got a pretty compact package indeed. If Canon would improve upon the EOS-M such as better AF, viewfinder, I could be interested.

mystik610 Cream of the Crop More info | Sep 27, 2014 07:12 | #15 There is a a lot of speculation around this new lens mount Canon is developing. Most are expecting it to be a FF mirrorless. Canon is also supposedly bringing a high resolution FF sensor in the near future. My guess is that they're putting together a camera to take on the Sony a7r. focalpointsphoto.com
