Narrow Bridge (external link) by Barry Sannes (external link), on Flickr

A cement truck crosses bridge #37 on the VA Creeper Trail, returning from bridge 35 and 36 construction projects . . . two of the most remote bridges on the trail. They had to lay down sheets of plywood and wedge the side rails out to get clearances that were measured in fractions of an inch.
I love seeing ingenuity at work.

LOL, WhidbeyHiker.
I thought that exact phrase watching this.
I sent this photo to the cement company's manager requesting them to give the driver “hazardous duty pay.”

Thanks, Kel!
This would be easier to appreciate if you could hear timbers creaking, the tires rubbing against side posts, and see the creek down below!

Surprised the bridge stood all that. Nice shot and the drivers definitely earned hazard pay for that trip.

Indeed, Doug.
I love the way the guide directs this beast across the bridge with the tweak of his thumb.

I've had to accept delivery of Cleaver Brooks 800 HP Boilers on a lowboy flat bed. Watching that thing swing and sway as the driver pulled up and over a couple of sidewalks, through the grass and up and over a final sidewalk has given me a few gray hairs.

Thanks Frank and Bernard.
I emailed this photo to the construction crew's home office along with admiration of their ingenuity. I recieved a "thank you" note from the president of the company.
Here is an excerpt from his reply: "You can’t tell by looking but this was well thought out, measured ten times and checked by three engineers and then gone over again. Thanks for the photo."
Cool stuff.

I would hate to be the engineer who had to sign off on that.

That has to be considered a rare opportunity to capture something that most will never see in person but might be part of a TV show about doing whatever it takes. Well done.

I thought the same exact thing, but didn't word it as succinctly as you, Cicopo.
Another appropriate capture: "Doing whatever it takes."
Thanks!
