I'm curious to know how many members would like to know in advance of new cameras being released by Canon.
And what are the benefits to Canon one way or the other.
I believe Nikon already do this.

Brian

It does help to be told when something is about to hit the shop windows.... If you have advance notice you can start the xtra drinks to prevent dehydration due to over-drooling. If you caught by surprise-- if you are blind sided -- you may not have some scottowels or tissues handy and it can be embarrassing.

So etiquette demands we are given advance notice.

I'd love to know what is coming down the pike. Knowing that I'm preparing an upgrade within the next couple of weeks, it could help me decide whether to hang on another week or two or go ahead and make my purchase.

Good luck guys. Basic rule of marketing - keep your customers in the dark for as long as possible [In regards to new products], so you can sell as many of the old stock, for as high a price as possible, for as long as possible. I deplore this style of tactic, but every major manufacturer does it. I consider it treating your customers with contempt, but many others are these equipment forums think that it's perfectly and morally ok.

Canon is getting ready to announce new Cameras. Their web site changed. They removed the New icon from 5D and 1D Mark IIn cameras.

I for one would love advance warning of any new models from Canon - like a 10.2MP SLR to combat the Nikon model with the same Pixel count.

Photokina's in the fall. The next big show is PMA, coming up next week.

I cannot wait until the announcement. I am saving to get a new camera and I want to wait until after this conference to see what happens with prices and such.

What Nikon typically does it announce a camera, but aren't able to ship it out for 2 to 8 months later. Canon announces in Feb and August and delivers a month later. If you announce to early Canon won't be able to get rid of current camera stock from retailers.

Hi Jon. I have the impression that Canon announces non-pro type of cameras in PMA while announcing the 1 series in Photokina. Is this true.

Personally I'm waiting for a cam that's higher than the 5D but lower than the 1DsII.

Nope. 20D came out in the fall. 10D came out before PMA - announced beginning of Jan. 2003 IIRC; 300D followed that by 7-8 months.

If Canon did let everybody know then there would be no reason for a rumor thread. Helps build up the momentum from a marketing perspective and keeps the blood hot.
