I've been using my EOS 500 for many years and waited the D-SLR cameras to progress. Now I think the 30D is my entry level. In a few years I hope to go up to the level of 5D or higher. But to begin with I cannot do with anything less than a 30D, resolution and features are just right for me. So the answer all depends on what you are going to use your D-SLR for and your budget.
