...because I just realized I'm going to have to start calling it the 7Dc.

Maybe it worked with the 5D because that was a bit of a 'classic', but I just don't see my 7D as 'classic'.

Damn you 7DII, guess I'll change my sig now.

There are a lot of us that do consider the 7D a classic at the very least it will be in a few years :)

Why do you have to rename it. I have never understood why the original has to be called a classic when a Mark 2 is released. When the 7D MKIII is released will the MKII become the 7DMKIIC.

This is silly. Just call it a 7D. Because, that's its name.

Here we go again, the same answers for the 5D apply here. It simply saves a ton of posts by calling out which version of the 7D (or 5D) you are talking about. Simply put, not everyone puts their mark # on their model when they talk about a camera, then we end up with 3-5 posts trying to figure out which one. Is it the MKII, MKIII or the original?

It doesn't take too many synapses to fire to recognize that the 7Dc or 7DI or 7D1 means the first 7D this way, so why the heartburn? Arguing against these names is fruitless, the 5Dc or 5DI has been talked about for years now, and a precedent has been set. ;)

I would prefer the 5DI/7DI but I don't care which way is used, as long as it is very clear which model is being discussed in each thread, without having to make assumptions.

I'm local so happy to meet up and trade you my 50D for your 7Dc. This way all your camera bodies will start with "5". Problem solved! ;)

lol that is one way to fix the issue. Perhaps even better, trade it for a 5Dc/5DI, then he would have the 3 sisters. :)

Nope, but Canon has a couple of naming issues right around the corner...

700D, 750D, 800D, 850D, 900D, 950D, then what?
70D, 80D, 90D, then what?
100D, 200D, then what?

We can assume that the xD line will continue with Mark notations, so no issue there yet.
7D, 7DII, 7DIII, etc
5D, 5DII, 5DIII, etc
6D, 6DII, etc

I got my 7D in April of 2010 so I got a nice long run of owning a 'current' camera. Just think if Canon put out cameras like they do with smart phones. We'd probably be looking at the 7D MK XXV right now :)

Maybe they get their naming convention advice from HTC. They too are a bit stupid at naming products lol.
