Induro have what appears to be a new range of systematics - the Grand Series EP (external link) - in aluminum as well as carbon fiber. They seem a bit heavy but given Benro's expertise in weight control this probably means they're pretty substantial. Given that you can't buy the Benro systematics in the US these look like a good alternative.

I was seriously considering the Induro. But just before committing came across this:

And I am glad I did!

On paper, the specs look amazing: > 55 lbs (25 kg) support but only weights ~4.2 lbs (1.9kg). I was told that it had Gitzo series 5 performance even though the size was in the range of Gitzo 3.

So I went with the Jobu. Coupled with a Markins Q-20, it weighs the same as my old Gitzo 2541EX + RRS BH-40. Just got it the other day. Will load it up and actually test it soon, but initial impressions: rock solid yet light. Quality craftsmanship through and through: so much more well-machined and crafted than my Gitzo.

I live in a town without an actual camera store so I can't drive anywhere and inspect quality tripods.

Two years ago, while I was up in Saint Augustine at the Alligator Farm/bird rookery, I met a couple who were both using Induro tripods. The tripods had a very nice fit and finish and since I was there for a while, I was able to observe them using them. They didn't seem to be struggling at all, like I was with my Giottos/Manfrotto setup.

They put these out at the same time as the new Grand Turismo reverse folding tripods. I had a chance to use one of those and they are pretty nice.

Here's someone with a little more information on the systematics:
