I was looking around on B&H's website to see if they sold a eyepiece hood for the 3" view screen on the G1X and could only find stuff that was stated to be for D-SLR Canon cameras but made no mention of them being able to be fitted to the G1X.

Does anyone have any direct knowledge via ownership of such a device that will work for this?

Cheers!

it's more about the screen size than the camera - Hoodman carries several sizes, and it's quite good, but expensive.
I tried once a chinese knock-off, and was really poor quality: a bit smelly rubber and not soft enough.
Jud's suggestion has good reviews too

Thanks for the responses so far.

I guess Ideally, I'd like to find something that attaches itself directly to the screen housing so that I could still make use of the screen's ability to move into different angles, primarily the face up position just like an agnle C finder would do on an SLR.

Something with a C shaped channel on its top and bottom should accommodate that, allowing the unit to simply slide on or off the screen. The bunji cord arrangement seems kind of primitive to me?

Cheers!

LOL - a bit extreme I would say.
I have seen some other brand that was using a combination of stick-on and mini-magnets to keep the finder in place. Look on EBay - I think it was there I saw it....
There is another good brand that has some sort o bracket/attachment, but it's seems dedicated for filming and would not work well with the swinging lcd
