I've used IrfanView (external link)for years. How does FastStone compare?

I've never really used IrfanView, so I can't say.

But if you don't want to clutter your registry with what might end in only a trial install, download the FS Portable version and unzip it in a new folder. Thus nothing gets written to the registry and you can just delete the folder when you are done.

To quickly get an idea of the FS capabilities, double-click on a thumbnail to open the image in full view and then run the mouse against each screen border (also right-click on the image) to see all the tools available.

FS is also color space aware, if you use anything beyond sRGB. This option is set in Settings (F12).

You are welcome guys! :)

When I was looking for a fast, free viewer I tried them both and there wasn't much difference. Now I've been using FS for years and I can't get on with IrfanView. You'd probably find the same thing, familarity is comfortable. No reason to think of switching.

I think FastStone is fantastic and very underrated, shame I am unable to use it on my Mac.:(

Qimage, the great printing program, is known for persuading Mac users to also keep a PC on the side, to be able to use it.

Will FastStone Image Viewer be the next one?

Exactly.

And again, one more reason for me to love FS Viewer.

In fact, based on the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words, when I take notes from the web, I don't copy-paste to Word, but rather I take fast screenshots with FastStone Capture, which automatically saves them in a dedicated folder with date/time as their file names.

What a relief not having to contrive meaningful file names that I'd be able to remember and locate later on!

Then I review those screenshots in FS Viewer and perhaps print them grouped on a single page with no effort. (The latter feature is a recent addition to FS Viewer.)

Thanks. I've been using and recommending FS ever since I found it. I'll upgrade immediately.
Oops, nevermind - - I already did that. Sometimes I lose track of all the web stuff.

Yeah, Fast Stone Capture is a real whiz - you can capture anything from any website. If you can see, you can get it!!
