I have no direct experience with this diffuser, but it's basically an egg-shaped bare-bulb type of diffuser. That is, it's a way to turn the rectagular shape of a speedlite head into something more light a light bulb, so that the shadows are softer and less directional due to the basically 360-degree light spread.

From a lighting standpoint, it's no different from a Stofen plastic diffuser cap, as the light will be shot all around instead of all forward, so the light bounces around before bouncing to your subject. The catchlight will be shaped like an egg, however, so that's one difference.

From a creative standpoint, you could use it to add an egg-shaped, lighted prop in the shot. For example, you can put the flash and diffuser on a pole and have a "wizard" model/cosplayer use the pole as a staff with glowing orb (and for extra creative points, you can add a gel to the flash before topping it off with the diffuser so that the staff-orb lights red, blue, green or some other gel color instead).

I've got one of these which I would think is pretty similar.

Main difference is that this has a foil lined back to direct the light a little more forward.
Better than a bare flash especially for toolin around at a party/reception. (And cheap lol)
