Hi all,

I'm looking for GND filter for sunrise, sunset. Let talk about color first, what's filter color good enough for sunrise, sunset scene? I'm thinking about yellow color for sunrise and red color for sunset. Are there any suggestion?

Second, can we use sunset GND filter for sunrise capture? Soft edge or hard edge is good for sunset, sunrise?

Any suggestion will be appreciated,

I vote no color tint on the GND and a somwhat softer edge. I think these look more natural.

I believe that it is recommended that if you use focal lengths in the UWA range that you go with a soft grad. That is what I use. However, I've never tested using a hard grad with longer focal lengths. I didn't want to buy 2 sets of nd grads :P

GND, no tint. You can apply a tint in post if needed. As to the edge, it depends on the scene. Sometimes a soft edge is best and at other time a hard edge work best. But lately I have opted for bracketing and HDR. It's so much easier to blend as needed in post plus you can get a vary large spread between the extremes.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

A reverse ND Grad would be more appropriate.

Hard vs. soft edge will depend on the scene.

Thanks all, I think I should get Reverse ND Singh-ray. So how many stop should I get for sunrise, sunset scenes?

My most used GND is 3 stop soft. If budget allows get 2-4 stop soft & hard and you will be covered for most scenes.

I want to guest blog on your Landscape / Travel photography blog, PM for details
